A new lab member, Seon Woo Lee from KAIST

Post date: Mar 9, 2016 7:44:59 AM

Hello and thank you for accepting me as a member of this lab!

My name is Seon Woo Lee (pronounced sun woo lee). I graduated from KAIST this February with a double major in Biological Science and Management Science. I also worked as an intern at AMCHAM-Korea for half a year before coming to graduate school.

My research Interests are in SNP-based disease associations, and I am about to work on osteoporosis. As I learn more and more about the field, I will be able to develop a more specific research topic of my own; so for now, I will try to learn about SNPs as much as I can, and I would be so grateful if everyone could lend me a hand.

From my birth on August 2, 1987, until I reached 18, my experience in South Korea was limited to 3 years. For the remaining 15 years, I lived in Taiwan (2 years), Philippines (5 years), and China (8 years).

Although I spent most of my life (and all my teenage years) in China, I mostly studied at international schools, so I am more comfortable with English than Chinese. I believe Korean is my mother tongue, but most people find my Korean accent quite different from others. (I remember someone once asking me if I were a North Korean)

In short, I am a near-native Korean and English speaker, and an acceptably-fluent Chinese speaker.

The main extracurricular activity I did since middle school was acting, and I have always been a long-standing member of school acting clubs until college graduation (even though I never got any leading roles). I can also play the trombone, but don't expect me to make good music with it.

My hobbies include going to watch stage plays and musicals, watching documentaries and animations, reading comic books and popular novels. I also like to drink Chinese tea. (I will soon bring some of my personal collection to the lab)

Well, that's enough written introduction for now! I'm sure we can get to know each other better in time, hopefully over the course of merrymaking and maybe some bottles of beer!

I will be at your service for the next few years, and I hope and will try my best to be a respectable colleague and a trustworthy friend!

Additional note: For those who remember the "Superman" performance at the retreat in February, that Superman suit actually belongs to me.
