Language Arts

Eighth Grade Language Arts is designed to involve the student in applying reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing skills in through meaningful tasks. Students will continue to develop an appreciation for literature through the study of literary elements in classic and contemporary selections. Emphasis is placed on moving from the literal to the abstract in the students’ critical thinking skills and in the use of language.

Grade 8 HMH Into Literature

This course prepares students for high school English by emphasizing advanced comprehension and analytical skills. Students evaluate complex texts, compare themes across multiple works, and analyze how authors develop ideas. Writing instruction focuses on structured argument, research, and clear organization of ideas. Students engage in collaborative discussions and independent work to build confidence as readers and writers.

Aligned to Ohio Learning Standards for English Language Arts and delivered through a combination of teacher-led instruction, independent practice, and digital resources.
