The sixth grade language arts class is a balanced literacy program in which students are challenged to improve in the areas of reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, speaking, and listening.
This course introduces students to literary analysis through a variety of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama. Students develop skills in comprehension, vocabulary, and identifying key ideas and themes. Instruction emphasizes citing textual evidence, analyzing characters and plot, and responding to literature through writing and discussion. Students also begin developing skills in narrative, informational, and opinion writing.
