In 2nd Grade Math, students develop number sense and understand place value for numbers up to 1,000, including writing numbers in different ways, comparing numbers, and adding and subtracting up to three-digit numbers. Students also tell time to five-minute intervals, count change, use information to create tables and graphs, measure objects using standard and nonstandard units, and solve story problems. In 2nd Grade Language Arts, students read and understand fiction and nonfiction texts, exploring main and supporting ideas, characters, setting, making connections between texts, and author's purpose. Students work with word families, sight words, spelling rules, affixes, parts of speech, contractions, and punctuation marks to further fluency in reading. Students write and publish fiction and nonfiction passages as well as learn listening and speaking skills. Science and Social Studies are integrated into the Language Arts curriculum.
