In the early elementary grades, HMH Into Math focuses on building foundational math skills and number sense. Students learn to count, represent numbers, and develop an understanding of addition and subtraction. Instruction includes hands-on and visual learning strategies, helping students make connections between numbers and real-world situations.

Students also begin developing problem-solving skills and mathematical communication, explaining their thinking using pictures, words, and numbers.
