ALiX installation
To install ALiX, download the compressed installer folder from the Download & Installation Instructions page and follow the instructions provided there.
If it does not exist, an "ALiX" folder will be created in the Program Files folder and a few files will be copied there, including the executable, named ALiX x.y.z.exe, where x.y.z is the version number. In other words, installing a new version will not uninstall previous versions, which can be kept or deleted as desired.
The installer will also create shortcuts to the application in the Start Menu and Program List. You can keep or delete these shortcuts as you see fit.
Running ALiX
Double-click on any of the shortcuts mentioned above, or directly on the executable in Program Files/ALiX.
Note that you can start multiple independent copies of ALiX. Keep in mind that each copy may use up a lot of memory if you are processing large data files, and may therefore compete with each other for RAM and CPU resources.
In case of a crash, the last backup copy of the Notebook for each running ALiX copy can be found in the User Temporary Directory, as ALiX x.y.z Notebook nnnn.tmp, where x.y.z indicates ALiX version and nnnn the Windows process ID number. This number is arbitrary but unique for each process, therefore there will be as many temporary Notebook files as there are running ALiX applications. These temporary files are deleted when the corresponding Notebooks are closed.
