The Burst Inspector window can be opened via the Windows menu or using the Ctrl+I shortcut.
It is used in association with the time traces displayed in the Time Trace page.
In its compact form, shown in the figure below, it shows basic information about the last mouse-clicked burst (1). The basic burst statistics displayed in this window can be computed with or without corrections, depending on which checkbox is checked (at the bottom).
For instance, in the example illustrated above, selecting Background Corrections changes the display to the following:
The ellipsis (...) button in the top-right corner of the window exposes additional information (2):
In particular, it is possible to define custom Burst Statistics (as in other ALiX pages), including user-defined aliases, to obtain their burst-specific Numeric Values. In this latter case, click again on the burst to update its information.
To return to the compact form of the Burst Inspector window, click on the double left-arrow (<<) button in the top-right corner.
A potentially useful feature to know about, is the lock button found in the top left corner of the window. Clicking it locks (or unlocks) the Burst Inspector window to (or from) the right-hand side of ALiX's main window. This prevents the Burst Inspector window to be lost (or hidden) when moving the main ALiX window around.
Notes
1. It may sometimes appear that a particular burst cannot be selected by clicking on it in the time trace. This is generally due to the fact that the actual burst duration is much shorter than the time trace bin size. Since the current algorithm looks for burst encompassing the time stamp of the mouse click, selecting a very short burst might require zooming in on the time trace in order to be able to click within the bin dimension with enough precision to pin-point the targeted burst.
2. As usual, quantities such as the mean nanotimes <nt_X^Y> are only displayed for ns-ALEX data, and burst rate statistics (r_X^Y_max and <r_X^Y>) are only displayed if they have been computed in the Count Rate Analysis window.
