Requirements
This software will only run on 64 bit versions of Microsoft Windows 7 and up.
Some of the functions used by the software support parallelism, therefore a multiprocessor and/or multicore computer is recommended.
Since single-molecule data sets tend to be large, and many analysis steps involve processing all photon data, it is preferable to have as much RAM as possible available. 8 GB or more are recommended.
In order to be able to read photon-HDF5 files, you will need to have HDF5 file format support on your machine. The simplest way to achieve this is to download and install it (free) from the HDF5 Group's site at https://support.hdfgroup.org/ftp/HDF5/releases/hdf5-1.8/hdf5-1.8.18/bin/windows/
Version 1.8.18 is the currently supported one by the h5labview binding used in ALiX.
Download the Installer
The installer only installs the software and its dependent files, but won't result in a functional executable unless you have LabVIEW 2018 SP1 64 bit Run-Time Engine (RTE) - or later - installed on your machine (*).
The RTE installer is available for free from National Instruments at http://www.ni.com/download/labview-run-time-engine-2018-sp1/7863/en/
(*) The required version of the RTE depends on the ALiX software version:
LabVIEW 2017 64 bits RTE for versions prior to 4.22
LabVIEW 2016 64 bits RTE for versions prior to 4.14.2
LabVIEW 2015 64 bits RTE for versions prior to 4.12
LabVIEW 2013 64 bit RTE for ALiX versions prior to 4.5
Several versions of the RTE can be installed concurrently on the same machine.
Uninstalling ALiX does not uninstall the corresponding RTE version, therefore it is only necessary to install the required RTE once.
Note that if you have the correct LabVIEW development environment installed on your machine, there is no need to install the RTE again, as it will already be available.
Installation Instructions:
1. Download the zip file (by clicking on the downward-pointing arrow to the right) in a location you can easily access (e.g. on the Desktop).
2. Unzip the file. This requires right-clicking on the zip file and selecting "Extract All..." to expand the archive into a new, temporary file:
3. Run "setup.exe".
4. Follow the instructions on the installation screen (the default values are fine).
The installer will create an "ALiX" folder under the "Program Files" directory on your computer (unless it already exists, in which case it will not be modified) and install the corresponding version of ALiX in it, with the name "ALiX x.y.z.exe", where "x.y.z" is the installed version. In other words, it will not uninstall or overwrite previously installed versions.
