The overall goal and mission of the consortium is to:
Find common and rare genetic determinants of COPD
Define COPD subtypes and to understand their genetic basis
Use this information to develop new COPD classifications and therapeutic interventions.
The Imaging work group will develop consensus approaches for measuring COPD-related imaging phenotypes. Will work to overcome the challenges that will allow genetic and epidemiological studies combining imaging phenotypes from multiple study populations that were assessed with different imaging protocols
The Genetics work group will design and perform collaborative genetic studies. These include genome-wide association studies and sequencing studies. The initial genetics projects will focus on COPD affection status and on lung function levels.
The Subtyping work group will design and perform collaborative studies of COPD heterogeneity. Both clinical subtyping and machine learning approaches will be considered.
