Unit 1 Skill Focus

1.A READING: Identify and describe components of the rhetorical situation: the exigence, audience, writer, purpose, context, and message.

3.A READING: Identify and explain claims and evidence within an argument.

4.B READING: Identify and describe the overarching thesis of an argument and any indication it provides of the argument's structure.

4.B WRITING: Write a thesis statement that requires proof or defense and that may preview the structure of the argument.

4.A WRITING: Develop a paragraph that includes a claim and evidence supporting the claim.

Homework:

1. Finish writing your précis if you haven't done so, and turn it in to Google Classroom by Friday

Outcome Objective:

1. Use your kairos graphic organizers to write a well crafted précis for "My Dungeon Shook," and turn it in via Google Classroom.

First Thing:

1. Get the "How to Write a Rhetorical Précis" and the "Rhetorically Accurate Verbs" handouts from up front, and then discuss your PAPA square with your squad.

Agenda:

1. Whole class comparisons of both sides of the kairos work

2. Lonely Boy

3. Instruction and explanation of the "How to Write a Rhetorical Précis" handout

4. Get a Chromebook and begin work on writing your own précis by using the Google Classroom assignment

If you haven't signed up for AP Classroom do so now (I will be assigning work from there)

5. Compare your work with a peer in order to make any final revisions/edits
