Outside Transfers

The Team 3 and overnight attending carries the Transfer phone for outside hospital ED transfer calls, although lately, the bed facilitator has been assuming this job.

• Bed availability may dictate transfer acceptance. You should ask the off-going attending or bed facilitator about bed availability when you start your shift.

• BIDMC ED will ALWAYS accept the following patients 

  • Traumatic injury 

  • STEMI 

  • Stroke/Neuro-intervention 

If beds are not available, then the bed facilitator will hold the transfer phone and manage decision making for transfer acceptance 

After accepting the transfer, an Expect note will be entered by the Transfer Center, you do not need to enter anything yourself.

Expected patients will appear under the "Expected" column in Epic.
