Outside Transfers

The Team 3 and overnight attending carries the Transfer phone for outside hospital ED transfer calls, although lately, the bed facilitator has been assuming this job.

  • Bed availability may dictate transfer acceptance. You should ask the off-going attending or bed facilitator about bed availability when you start your shift.
  • BIDMC ED will ALWAYS accept the following patients
    • Traumatic injury
    • STEMI
    • Stroke/Neuro-intervention

If beds are not available, then the bed facilitator will hold the transfer phone and manage decision making for transfer acceptance

After accepting the transfer, a call-in note should be placed in the ED dashboard.

Often, our clinical affiliates with ED dashboard access such as BID-Needham, BID-Milton and the Urgent Cares will submit the call-in note, but remember to ask!

To place a transfer call-in note:

1. Click "Call-in" located at the top of the ED Dashboard

2. Enter the patient's name and DOB, then click Look Up or Proceed to get to this page where you can enter the rest of the clinical information.

To access the Expected Patients list:

1. Click "Functions" on the left sidebar of the ED Dashboard

2. Click the "Show Call-ins" button
