Recent Surgery/Procedure
If there is a patient currently in the emergency department at BIDMC who has had a surgery or procedure performed at BIDMC within the past 30 days, the Attending physician must ensure that the appropriate surgical/procedural service is aware that the patient is in the emergency department regardless of whether the current complaint is related to the surgery.Â
The Attending physician may delegate this task to a resident.
A consult must be obtained if the current emergency department presentation is related to the surgery/procedure or possibly related to the surgery/procedure.
If the current emergency department presentation is unrelated to the procedure, a consult can be obtained, or a direct page may be sent and the conversation documented within the chart.
