QA & Follow Up

The goal of our ED Quality Improvement and Peer Review Processes is "to systematically identify, evaluate, and correct situations which may result in injury to the patients, visitors, employees, and healthcare providers, and which may result in a financial loss to the medical center."

  • QA Meetings are held every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 11a-1p. You will only need to attend if you are invited to discuss a case. Otherwise attendance is not required.

What ED cases undergo Peer Review?

  • Individual cases referred by healthcare providers, patients or family members

    • Cases flagged through ED Dashboard

    • Cases referred from other departments

    • Patient complaints

Follow Up

  • Blood cultures must be cancelled prior to a patient's discharge UNLESS you have designated somebody, such as the patient's PCP, to follow-up results

  • Do not order HIV testing for patients that will be discharged unless somebody is specifically following up on this test.

  • Gonorrhea/chlamydia testing is one of the few lab results that can be followed up after discharge by our own QA nurses. Our nurses will call the patient if they become positive.
