Urgent Care Staffing

With the addition of midlevels, splitting shifts on heavier patient volume days, and the opportunity now open to make changes at Norwood, we have improved the clinical shifts at our urgent care sites. Many of you who originally did not want to continue to work urgent care have reversed your decision. However, some providers continue to not want to work urgent care. Unfortunately, at this point in time, there is not sufficient attending coverage to allow providers to completely opt out of urgent care clinical shifts. Starting in July 2016, providers who do not want to work urgent care will have the opportunity to offer their urgent care shifts to other attendings – called “urgent care moonlighting shifts.”

Urgent Care Moonlighting

  1. Starting with the July schedule, any attending who does not want to work his/her scheduled urgent care shift will have five calendar days from the date that a schedule is published to send an email to Maile Blackburn and let her know that you want to put your urgent care shift on the moonlighting listing.

  2. Once the five days are up, Maile will email a list of urgent care shifts available for moonlighting to the BIDMC and urgent care attending groups for sign up. The moonlighting sign-up list will remain active for fourteen calendar days.

  3. When the fourteen days have been reached, the moonlighting list closes for that particular month.

  4. Maile will then notify the original requesting provider that the shift that s/he offered up for moonlighting has been taken or not taken and update Tangier to reflect any changes.

Moonlighting Payment

The moonlighting rates will be commensurate with anticipated volumes: $225/hr for Monday; $200/hr for Tuesday - Friday; and $250/hr for Saturday and Sunday; and available for immediate pay-out. As is our current practice, moonlighting dollars will be paid out on the 15th payroll cycle of the month following – so July shifts will be paid on August 15; August shifts will be paid on September 15, etc. Likewise, you are always able to choose the P&L model for these extra shifts. Gary Shillin will contact you regarding payment via your P&L or as moonlighting payment described above.
