Layout

  • The ED is split geographically into several zones. However, providers are not divided or limited by a specific zone, and you will see patients in all the different zones.

  • The highest acuity patients are usually (but not always!) placed into the Red Zone or Core rooms

  • Red Zone room 21 is the primary trauma bay.

  • Yellow Zone is utilized for psychiatric patients although the Core beds will be used for overflow

  • Green-Purple Zone (known as “the periphery”) sees mixed acuity patients

  • CDU (Blue) is used for observation and primary patient care

Equipment

  • Section 12 pink forms: next to Team 1 attending computer

  • Consent forms: pillar to right of Unit Coordinators’ desk

  • Lumbar puncture kit: PYXIS in front of 16

  • Laceration and I&D kits: PYXIS in GP zone

  • Lidocaine: Med PYXIS in GP/red zone, ask any nurse for retrieval

  • Paracentesis: needles/syringes + red top + purple top from any cart. Chlorhexidine in pt’s room. Sterile towels in front of rm 11.

  • Ultrasounds: One each in Rooms 20 and 21. One in Hallway 18, one in Hall 6-7, one in Hall 31.
