Layout
The ED is split geographically into several zones. However, providers are not divided or limited by a specific zone, and you will see patients in all the different zones.
The highest acuity patients are usually (but not always!) placed into the Red Zone or Core rooms
Red Zone room 21 is the primary trauma bay.
Yellow Zone is utilized for psychiatric patients although the Core beds will be used for overflow
Green-Purple Zone (known as “the periphery”) sees mixed acuity patients
CDU (Blue) is used for observation and primary patient care

Section 12 pink forms: next to Team 1 attending computer
Consent forms: pillar to right of Unit Coordinators’ desk
Lumbar puncture kit: PYXIS in front of 16
Laceration and I&D kits: PYXIS in GP zone
Lidocaine: Med PYXIS in GP/red zone, ask any nurse for retrieval
Paracentesis: needles/syringes + red top + purple top from any cart. Chlorhexidine in pt’s room. Sterile towels in front of rm 11.
Ultrasounds: One each in Rooms 20 and 21. One in Hallway 18, one in Hall 6-7, one in Hall 31.
