Time: Thursday, November 6th. Registration from 4:45-5:00. Awards at 9-9:30.

Location: University of Winnipeg main campus, 515 Portage Avenue. (Easiest entrance is the one on

Portage. Walk north from Portage past the castle-like building and enter through the glass doors) Style: 3 rounds of impromptu British Parliamentary debate. Let your debaters know to expect challenging resolutions.

Judging: Debaters will be judged by experienced judges only. Teams will be ranked 1-4 in the room, and these rankings will be used to determine the team standings at the end of the tournament (but not individual standings). Each room will have either one judge, or a panel of 3 (or 5) judges who will have a small amount of time to confer after the debate has ended and agree on an overall ranking.

Registration cost: The tournament’s registration cost will be 60 dollars per school, with a maximum of three teams per school. If your school wishes to send more than three teams, please contact us and we will adjust the price accordingly. The payment deadline is November 6 (the day of the tournament). Cheques for registration should be made out to: UWSA (Debate Society).

Notes: Some refreshments will be provided at the tournament for students and judges. Coaches should be prepared for the possibility of being asked to judge if necessary.

In the event that you get lost around the University, please have your school’s chaperone take down the phone number of the tournament’s coordinator, Ariel Melamedoff: 204-223-6973. He will assist you and/or your students in finding their way to the right place.

The registration deadline is November 1st. Register by sending an email to uofwdebatesociety@live.com. The email should specify how many teams your school wishes to send to the tournament, and the name and phone number of the chaperone that will be coming with them.
