Blaikie Cup

University of Winnipeg

Senior tournament

Time: Thursday, November 14th, registration will be from 4:30-4:45, with the first round starting at 5:00.

Location: University of Winnipeg, 515 Portage avenue - Centennial hall (The main building, behind the collegiate). There will be a table set up behind the escalators for registration.

Resolution: Three rounds of impromptu debate - Resolutions will be given out 15 minutes before each round

Style: British Parliamentary

Speaking time will be a maximum of 5 minutes per speech, with 30 seconds protected time at the beginning and end of every speech.

NOTE: This will be a university level tournament. This means there will be university level resolutions, and prep times will be shorter than debaters are used to. Please let your students know this so they will not be surprised by the changes.

Registration is $50 per school, with each school sending no more than 3 teams. If a school wishes to send more teams, there will be an additional $25 for any number of teams beyond 3, with a hard cap at 6 (i.e. sending 4-6 teams costs a total of $75). Depending upon numbers, it may be possible to send additional teams - keep in mind, however, that any more than 6 teams may incur an additional fee (beyond the $75). If you would like to send more teams, please indicate this on the form, and (provided you've given contact info) we will get back to you when we have determined our final numbers.

There will be one judge per room, and we will only be using experienced judges. If possible, please bring judges who have extensive experience with British Parliamentary style - either by competing in the style, or having judged it many times. Coaches may be asked to judge if necessary.

Please email the University of Winnipeg Debate society (uofwdebatesociety@live.com) by November 7th, 2013, specifying how many teams your school wishes to bring to the tournament. The registration fee must be paid on or before the date of the tournament. Checks may be made out to the University of Winnipeg Debate Society (or UWDS). If you have any questions, feel free to email us at the same address.
