Jr SJR Debate Nov 2015

Time: Wednesday, November 18. Registration from 5 to 5:30. Awards around 9 PM

Location: St. John’s-Ravenscourt School, 400 South Drive. Winnipeg

Resolution: This House would establish a free national day care system in Canada

Teams will debate the prepared resolution twice, once on each side.

Speaking times for all debates will be a maximum of 6 minutes for constructive speeches and 3 minutes for rebuttals. Points of information are allowed in the open category. (Rules are described in the parliamentary rules available on the MSDA website (https://sites.google.com/site/manitobadebate/rules-and-scoresheets/parliamentary-debate-rules )

If there are sufficient entries, there will be separate novice and open categories at the tournament. In order to qualify as novice, debaters must be in their first year of debating at tournaments or must be grade 6 or 7. Schools may send a maximum of 3 teams in total, i.e. adding together the novice and open teams. Depending upon numbers, it may be possible to send additional teams. If you would like to do so please indicate this on the form and, if you include your phone number or email address, I will let you know as soon as possible. Schools must bring at least one judge per team. If this presents a problem, please contact me about it and we will see if other arrangements can be made. Judges may be grade 10, 11 or 12 students.
