Jr Novice Provincial Debating Championships

Time: Thursday, May 31, 2018. Registration will be from 5 until 5:30 PM.There will be 2 prepared rounds. The tournament should end at around 8 PM. Students should have eaten before attending – dinner will not be provided. There will be snacks provided between rounds.

Who can take part: This tournament is open to any Grade 6 or Grade 7 debaters, and to those Grade 8’s who are in their first year of inter- school debating and who have not gone to any competitions outside of Manitoba like the Jr Nationals (check if you are uncertain)

Location: St. John’s-Ravenscourt School, 400 South Drive

Resolution: "Be it resolved that all classes should be streamed according to ability”This resolution must be defined in a straightforward manner. Teams will debate both sides.

Speaking times will be a maximum of 6 minutes for constructive speeches and 3 minutes for rebuttals. There is no

minimum time. Heckling, points of order and points of information are not allowed.

Schools may send a maximum of 3 teams. Depending upon numbers, it may be possible to send additional teams. If you would like to do so, please indicate this on the form and I will let you know on May 28. Schools must bring one judge per team.
