Shadow

Your shadow is a special assistant you can call to help you in a fight. Players starting from level 7 can get their own shadow after they complete the quest "Unruly Shadow", which becomes available after you get the Devastating Filth Curse. Getting the devastating filth curse in the first place however is purely random. To get rid of it and start the quest you should go talk to the Occultist Koeshu in Clan Burial Grounds or the Necromancer in Vassals' Tomb.

Once you complete the quest and get your own shadow, there will be an additional tab in your backpack for it.

You will also find your Own Shadow as well as the Dancing Shadow Mirror in the quest section of your backpack. You can talk to the shadow, while you can use the mirror in case you are befallen by a new shadows curse.

Shop

In the Twilight Shop which you can access when talking to the Shadow in Tomb of Kings or Lady Dawn in Lumirya Waterfall you can find different things for your shadow.

Fighting

Summoning your shadow to a fight will consume a certain number of Twilight Crystals, how many depends level of your shadow. It consumes one twilight crystal for each of the shadows level (7 twilight crystals for a level 7 shadow, 8 for a level 8 shadow,... ). You can get Twilight Crystals in three different ways, first of all you can buy them for the Shadow in Tomb of Kings or Lady Dawn in Lumirya Waterfall you can find different things for your shadow.

You have a small symbol at the top left of your fighting screen, which you need to click to summon your shadow to the fight. This action is obviously only possible once during a fight and prohibited completely in certain types of fights, like great battles or other fights that restrict the usage of summons or mounts.

Once you die in a fight your shadow will die immediately as well. Besides spells, the shadow can heal itself twice per fight for half of his HP.

Level and Rank

Shadows can level up and gain ranks like players can. The shadow will gain experience for dealing damage in a fight and valour for dealing damage to players. Once the shadow has accumulated enough experience or valor though - other than his master - he needs to be leveled or ranked up manually, which also costs Twilight coins.

In the attributes tab of your shadow you can see how much experience and valor he has and needs respectively. As well as the amount of coins required to raise their level or rank.

Your shadow can reach the same level and rank like you and still gain experience and valor until the bar is maxed - at that point it won't be able to get any more until you yourself reach the next level or rank and use coins to let the shadow level or rank up.

Equipment

The armor for the shadow follows the same idea it does for players - to be able to equip items you need a certain level and maybe rank. Also, like it is for normal players, you shouldn't mix and match fighting styles for the shadow either.

The first basic piece of equipment for your shadow - his cloak - you can get by finishing a quest for him. The cloak itself already has a fighting style, if you are unhappy with the one you picked you can buy another one for 43g in the twilight shop.

For the normal armor for the shadow, one needs normal armor and use a Shadow Transformation Gem to transform it into shadow armor. Only items of level 6 and above can be used for shadow armor. All equipment that does not require a rank to use for players will be turned into green armor for the shadow, all that does need rank will be turned into blue shadow armor.

For example:

A full list of shadow armor can be found here.

Attention: Items transformed into shadow armor will lose any built-in extras (runes, bezels, symbols, built-in magics) and you won't be able to destroy them for crystals or fragments.

Instead you can destroy them with a Shadow Scroll of Destruction from the twilight shop to receive Twilight Crystals. Also on the good side shadow armor does not have any durability so it will not be damaged in fights, as well as it won't take up space in your backpack. There is additional equipment for the Shadow, which can not be obtained by using a Shadow Transformation Gem on normal players equipment. Those are rings, amulets and bracelets which can be obtained from the Crypt of the Fallen Heroes instance. A guide about the quest to get access, including strategies for the instance itself can be found on the game forum. It also includes links to all items that can be obtained from the instance.

Shadow Scroll of Destruction

An important note for players using the game client: The built in extra function to save armor sets, unequip armor and equip certain sets includes your shadows armor. Thus make sure to include your shadows armor when you save a new set, otherwise he will end up without armor on after you use this function.

Spells

The shadow, besides dealing physical blows, is also able to use spells starting from level 7 already.

Spells for the shadow can be bought in the twilight shop if you or your shadow fulfill the requirements for them. Once you have bought the skill you will have to equip it to one of the open spell slots for your shadow so it can actually use it in the fight.

At first your shadow only has one slot for a spell, one more can unlocked the following ways:

    • Shadow level 12

    • Shadow rank Champion, War Master, Higher Master, Lord of the Battle, Chosen by Gods

    • Great Skill Rune Seal

Daily Quest

The Shadow offers one quest a day when talking to him from the backpack. If you are unable to complete it you can simply talk to it and tell it you are not able to finish the quest. After completing or cancelling a quest the next one will be available after midnight in-game time.

Each quest consists of two parts, after completing the first part you are able to either stop the quest and take a part of the reward, or keep going for the second and more difficult part. Note that if you agree to try the second part but are not able to complete you will not even get the reward for the task you had completed to get there.

You get the choice of either 50 Twilight Crystals or 3 Twilight Coins if you decide to stop after the first bit. If you do manage to fulfill both of his requests, you'll be able to choose between 80 Twilight Crystals or 5 Twilight Coins.

Fighting Monsters:

1.) Defeat 5 Monsters whose level is no more than 1 below yours, while the Shadow takes part in the fight.2.) Let the Shadow defeat a monster whose level is no more than 1 below yours. While doing this you should inflict less than 150 damage yourself. You can summon your mount or summons to assist the Shadow in the fight.

Fight Superbeings:

1.) Kill any superbeing while the Shadow takes part in the fight. (No level restrictions apply to this quest)

2.) Kill any superbeing while the Shadow takes part in the fight, however no other players should take be in the fight.

Fight Shadows:

1.) Defeat your shadow in a training battle. The strength of the shadow depends on the level. If the shadow is level 7-10, it will use a great elixir of giant at the start of the fight and can use the level 3 superblows Thirt for Blood. If the shadow is level 11+, it will use a great elixir of giant, a great elixir of spirit and a great elixir of atshi. The fighting style and school of magic for the shadow are random.

2.) Defeat your shadow again, this time however there will be two shadows in the fight.

Hidden Shadows:

1.) Kill monsters that are no more than 1 level below yours until you get attacked by a Hidden Shadow.

2.) Kill monsters that are no more than 1 level below yours until an Invincible Shadow attacks you. There is still a chance of Hidden Shadows to attack, which will not count for the completion of the quest. How many monsters are necessary until either of the shadows attack you is purely based on luck.

1.) Talk to your shadow while in the crystalline caves, temple or arena.

2.) Win a fight with the help of your shadow in one of the above mentioned battlefields.

Defeating in Battlefields:

1.) Fight and win against an enemy race warrior in a battlefield (crystalline caves, temple or arena) and summon your shadow to the fight. You need to inflict more damage to the oponent than other players for it to count.

2.) Defeat 3 more warriors of the other race with the help of your shadow.

Commemorative Coins:

1.) While fighting monsters or superbeings find one of the collection coins (bronze, silver and gold coins work).

2.) Open one of the antiquarian bags. (Complete one of the coin collections, exchange it for a bag and open it).

Essays:

1.) While fighting monsters or superbeings receive an essay.

2.) Use any research.

Rune Seals

Rune seals can permanently increase the shadows stats.

First things first, how to get them: Combining 12 Small Rune Seal Fragments will give a random Small Rune Seal, similarly for combining 12 Medium Rune Seal Fragments you will get a random Medium Rune Seal. The same goes for the Large Rune Seal Fragments and the Great Rune Seal Fragment to get a random Large and Great Rune seals respectively. These Framgents or even a full Rune Seals can be obtained from Twilight Caskets with some luck, the same ones you can get Twilight Crystals and Twilight Coins from.

There are eight different types of Rune Seals, to which there are four qualities each.

Small

Medium

Large

Great

Strength

Life

Mana

Agility

Defense

Intuition

Initiative

Durability

There is one special Rune Seal that does belong to any of the above mentioned types, it can only be used once on a Shadow. Like mentioned above it is one that adds an extra spell ability slot:

Note: All Rune Seals for one stat give the same number, independant of it's quality!

To see how many seals you have used of a type you can check the "Attributes" tab in the Shadow information.

For the other Rune Seals one for each stat can be used for each level of the Shadow starting from level 7. That means a level 7 shadow can have one of each stat used, a level 8 shadow can have learned two of each stat and so on.

Each seal used of a type will add to the counter of used seals for said type.
Once you have used 5 of rune seals of a type on the shadow, you can no longer use small ones. That is once the counter reaches 5 it won't allow green ones to be used anymore. After 9 or 12 rune seals of a type, you can no longer use medium or large rune seals respectively anymore.

Some more explanation and an example: If you use a small, medium, large or great rune seal makes no difference at all for a shadow up to level 11, except for most likely the cost. Therefore I would advise to use small rune seals and save up the other ones or sell them for some money to higher level players that can not use small ones anymore.

Assuming you have used say 5 agility rune seals (again quality doesn't matter) on your shadow already and it is level 12 or higher, meaning it can learn at least one more agility rune seal. Now since it already has learnt 5 agility rune seals, you can't use any small agility rune seals on it anymore. Thus you'll have to use medium or better quality.
