Gnosticism, Needs, Expectations and Profit
as Methods that create Building before Architecture.
Definition
Building = Construction
Architecture = Ideas about building. Master building.
Gnostic = Spiritual knowledge beyond material knowledge.
Premise
Building is not Architecture since it uses only the current ideas, materials, and skills to produce a debased form of an original idea.
The original idea is the true Architecture.
In creating this debased form of shelter humans are also debasing their needs, values, qualities, appreciations of beauty, culture and societies.
Purpose
This essay examines the methods that are being used to create building before Architecture in our current society in Britain.
It examines Gnosticism, Needs, Expectations, Profit as Methods that create Building before Architecture.
It then examines the nature of these methods and establishes the effects of each.
Gnosticism
This is Architecture, not building, formed from sensory response to environment that forms synaptic patterns that can be re-activated by the environment and communicated as ideas.
It is Architecture formed in, an infinitely small span of sensory input in a particular context.
It is the true form of humanity trying to exist in the universal void.
Needs
These are a response to environment context that try to maintain the human organism.
They are personal to each human.
They respond by using initial pure Sensory Gnosticism to manipulate the environment to create enclosure.
It is this manipulation that creates the lesser form of Architecture called Building.
Group Needs are a series of individual conceits developed out of the transient acquisition of survival developed into prestige.
They are not beneficial in the long term.
They create repetitive adaptation of the environment for social control over other humans.
They waste resources, energy and environment.
They produce the most debased form of Building.
Expectations.
These use the sensory Gnosticism and Needs in a deliberate, resource destructive, manner to achieve social control over other humans and to make money from them throughout their life.
Expectations create Building from historicist, nationalist, conservative policies, liberalist economies of austerity and socialist mass participation under dictatorships.
Expectations purport to create shelter by labelling it a necessary personal achievement but they are manipulations of environmental response in order to make profit.
Expectations have become the moulds into which humanity is forced to waste resources, energy and environment.
Profit.
This is the physical vehicle by which the sensory Gnosticism, forced Needs and Expectations are spread through our society.
Money is the product formed by human states to incubate profit.
It is actually only a manufactured product of raw materials, metals, wood, paper, algae, oil, and vegetable bi-products that is formed into agreed shapes and stamped with the symbols of the state and the nation.
Money is used universally as a trade initiation device, a profit device, a symbol of social status and confirmation of prestige or social power within the society and a propaganda tool to confirm the state and nation.
Acquisition of money is a dictate that all within the state must obey and obtain if they are to buy their right to exist on the land.
The common phrases in our society, ‘we need money’ or ‘we need to make money’, are outgrowths of sensory self-deception and language mutation through state propaganda forcing incentives.
The nature of money as forced incentive is confirmed by the state deliberately retaining control of the manufacture of the money and stamping it, engraving it, incising it with its signs, symbols and weights. In Britain this process is created through a specialist company, the Royal Mint.
The Royal Mint in its operation identifies language mutation through state propaganda forcing incentives as universal since it is a limited company owned by HM Treasury and controlled by the Exchequer that pays itself in its own product. In this sense the money manufacturing process is a prisoner of its own nature.
Once created the manufactured idea and product called money passes through multiple money flows and exchange locations within the state. The Bank of England, then the major banks, then the minor banks then the businesses, then the employed in the country, then the retail outlets, transport and service outlets.
The money is then paid back by the same exchange locations to the minor banks, then to the major banks and then to the Bank of England. At all exchange stages a tax is collected and passed back to the Bank of England.
The Bank of England is therefore responsible and able to collect tax, control of prices within the country and support the government policies to maintain economic growth.
A secondary effect of the multiple money flows and exchanges is to change the amount of money held by each exchange location in the country from individual to major bank.
This is what is meant by the term ‘wealth’. It is only the personal retention of part of the flow of money in a country at a specific location.
These multiple money flows are profit obsessed. As the streams of money pass through the economy they can effect taxations, price controls, products, product values, manufacturing values, skill values, beliefs in class and social status, freedoms, qualities, appreciations of attainable beauty and cultural connections.
This then is the confession of the current nature of our humanity. It is necessarily, obsessively, materialistic in nature. Chasing profit that it knows will reduce human potential to that of self-domestication.
Humans become animals trapped in ourobourosian streams of money flow and profit and never attain the Sensory Gnostic items they are collecting the money for.
As self-domesticated animals we produce our goods and services in mass production facilities and import and export them globally. The deliberate delusion is that we are not just surviving but prospering.
In truth we are wasting resources, energy and environment.
The damage caused by the profit delusion has therefore turned our values, qualities, appreciations of beauty and cultures into mass produced items and so debased them.
The current attainment of our society is therefore a self-deception that it is the antithesis of Sensory Gnosticism.
This explains why humans find it so difficult to equate a created object with a monetary value.
The former is deliberate and specific close to, the unattainable, uniqueness. Whilst the latter is mass produced and arbitrary. The two are irreconcilable.
Methods
Architecture is the initial necessary control over a variable environment to allow humans to obtain the maximum sensory input and survive as has been described previously however it has been debased into building by Needs, Expectations and Profit.
Its debased origins can even be traced.
The statement of the Roman Emperor Augustus about Rome.
‘I found it built of brick and I left it clad in marble’ is one of the earliest admissions of an ‘over-cladding’ of a less profitable building with prestige materials and forms using plundered wealth.
The debased building after the Great Fire of London in 1666.
The key progenitors of this later type of poor quality, building included Nicholas Barbon and his contemporaries who used cheap, mass building based on profit before quality to rebuild the city of London and keep it trading to allow human survival.
All of the producers of building received notoriety, prestige, and patronage for their efforts even when their works indicate the nature of their wealth. Debts and false values.
Our current society; using depletion economics; has continued to follow the debt is wealth principal.
It can be equated.
For the Lenders and Investors
Loans = Debts = Repayments = Profit = Loans
For the Borrowers, Purchasers or Consumers
Loans = Purchases = Debts = Repayments = Loans
Therefore one part of society can gain by merely lending out more and more money since they are certain that the self-domesticated consumer population has been trained to want and desire everything that can be imagined and manufactured.
The lenders and Investors become seen as historical since they purchase nothing that does not hold or gain value and this by its nature is all the ancient wealth and proven value products of a nation and state.
The wealthy are therefore seen as the historical, the conservative.
The poor are seen as the transient, the revolutionary, the socialist.
Each need the other to survive.
Architecture is the initial necessary stage in this spiral since it is the oldest form of Conservative creation, order from chaos. It is gradually debased into socialist building to allow it to be carried out as a Need. This is then repeated at each stage of the debt spiral.
The liberal middle ground is only perceived as a generator to spread the Needs and Products of the nation and state. It produces only bland neutrality.
This is how our environment has and is being formed.
This is why true Architecture is so rare.
The Methods of Economy our society currently uses to achieve the wealth spiral in relation to Building before Architecture can be listed.
Make profit for the works your sole, (soul) aim.
Never own a building or land until you have someone who wants to buy it.
Never build before you have sold the idea of the project to the purchasers or to another developer.
Never do any more to a building than you have to do to make it profitable.
Build only in response to a local need of the general population.
Economize the land you use to create the building.
Reuse the natural resources on the site before importing them.
Economize the way you use imported materials.
Economize the detailing of materials.
Be iconic in your use of form to create a self-advertising building.
Never finance a scheme totally by yourself with your own capital.
Use grant funding where possible.
Sublet all parts of the works to investors for a share of the profits of the works to reduce your own capital costs in the works.
Sell every piece of land that you own; but cannot build upon; to others for maximum profit.
Pay back the investors’ money through pre-completion sales to reduce your debt burden to below the interest rate level on your capital to maintain profit on your capital.
Pay back all outstanding money over the longest timescale possible at the lowest rate.
Spread your debts through multiple banking and money systems to reduce it.
Maintain for yourself a prestige level far in access of your capital value to draw in future investors.
Study and learn the emotions, needs and desires that drive people and form them into competing groups for your own profit.
Establish the needs, wants and desires of your target market group in the population and exploit these into the forms and materials of your buildings.
Divide and conquer investors or purchasers to constantly obtain the greatest value and profit from them.
Identify competitor’s strengths and weaknesses, power status, financial backers, financial ability, company hierarchy, company purposes and likely longevity.
Adapt only your directions to others never your own aims.
Maintain a company around you to defend you from constant deviation from your profit.
Maintain an ongoing schedule of work with all those you have employed or subcontracted work to so that they have to consider their future employment stability before objecting to any of your decisions or financial controls over them.
Create links to the landowners, public employees and financiers through client and patronage work.
Be seen in the company of only those classes of people who serve your advancement and profit.
Be known for knowing people who have greater influence and profit than yourself.
Be seen only in those locations that will create advancement and profit for yourself.
Wear fashions that maintain your class levels to advance your standing in society and increase your profit or loan potential.
Allow for all of your business methods to become more complex and eventually out of date.
Always prepare a way out of the level of society, location, wealth, debt, family you have attained.
Always work on the principle that all things have only a limited duration to make profit.
Conclusion
Building is indeed not Architecture since it uses only the current ideas, materials, and skills to produce a debased form of an original idea.
The original idea is the true Architecture.
In creating this debased form of shelter humans have and are also debasing their needs, values, qualities, appreciations of beauty, culture and societies.
Architecture is the Art of the Master Builders. It is not meant to be; even though this is its current status; a simple, cheap, disposable, product. It is the physical manifestation of the sensory input rationalization, and sensory output communication of a culture. It is Gnostic yet it denies the social control mechanism of a ‘God’ in favour of humanism. It establishes in a population the unavoidable, self-created, strong, statement that they can be greater than each of them believe.
Removing all of the Needs, Expectations, Profit and Methods that create Building the Gnosticism can be allowed to become a contextual tool to produce responses to help humans in the future.
This is Architecture.
