The Building the Future bond issue included $1.4 million for security upgrades across the district. As of late 2014, $1.1 million has been spent, with the remaining $300,000 being reserved for use for security issues for the new construction at BHS and for renovations at Central Middle School.

Completed upgrades include:

  • Lobby Guard visitor sign-in kiosks for background checks and badge printing

  • Door locks replaced in many classrooms

  • 235 new cameras installed throughout the district

  • Intercoms updated throughout the schools with capability extended to playground & outdoor areas

  • GPS radios & cameras installed on buses, so we now know where buses are at all times

  • Alarms installed on the back doors of some schools

  • Protective film installed on outward facing windows

  • Badge system implemented for 880 employees as well as for Middle School, Mid-High & High School students

  • Entrance to Mid High upgraded with new visitor entrance into Mid-High office

  • Central’s existing south entrance enhanced, but major changes to come when Central's renovation moves the offices and main entrance to the east side of the school at street level on Delaware
