New Renderings of BHS South Additions

New renderings have been released by Ambler Architects to show what the new south additions at Bartlesville High School will look like. As of May 2014, site work is well underway and bids will be considered this month for the major portion of the construction projects as the school expands to begin serving freshmen and sophomores in August 2015.

The rendering at right shows what the new south additions will look like as viewed from the visitor stands at Lyon Field. To the left is the Freshman Academy addition with its entrance.

The curved glass wall wrapping around the southwest corner of the Doornbos Track and Custer Field is the new cafeteria/commons. Above and behind it are additional classrooms serving grades 10-12.

The next rendering shows the east side of the Freshman Academy addition. A new circle drive will provide access to a separate Freshman Academy entrance for parents to pick-up and drop-off freshmen.

The Freshman Academy will be attached to the rest of the campus, providing the 9th grade with its own academic classrooms, library, office, conference rooms, and teacher workrooms. The Freshman Academy, like the current Mid-High serving grades 9-10, will be on a 7-period school day. Freshmen will share the cafeteria/commons with other students, but will have their own closed-campus lunch period in that space. They will also share the gymnasia and fine arts spaces with the other grade levels.

Grades 10-12, like the current classes for grades 11-12, will be on a 6-period school day. Their academic classes will be housed in the existing classrooms in the 1939 main building, 1958 annex, and 2003 science wing, along with additional new classrooms added on a level above the existing connecting link to the south and an expansion of the science wing on the north end of the campus.

The classrooms in Custer Stadium will be home to the Bruin Academy alternative school program and the Bruin Brilliance, Back on Track, and PASS support programs.

The new cafeteria/commons will take over from the small windowless basement cafeteria created in 1956 under the 1939 main building. A curving glass wall in the new space, located south of Custer Stadium, will provide a view of the Doornbos Track and Lyon Field to the north and the east.

The new cafeteria/commons will have sufficient seating for the entire freshman class for its own lunch period, with separate lunch periods for grades 10-12 as well as the Bruin Academy alternative school program.

The cafeteria/commons also serves as the lower-level connection between the main building, annex, science wing, and stadium to the north and the field houses, fine arts center, and Freshman Academy wing to the south. A new upper-level classroom addition will provide an upper-level connection between the north and south portions of the campus.
