It was a momentous day at Bartlesville High School yesterday morning as shovels hit the dirt during a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of BHS.

Approximately 40 people were in attendance for the event including, board members, school officials, city officials, architects, contractors, student representatives and members of the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee. The ceremony marked the official start of construction at Bartlesville High School. The construction project is part of the $36.72 million bond which was passed by Bartlesville voters in September of 2013.

“Today marked a very important day for our school district and for our community. At BHS, we are creating a top class facility which will allow our students to excel. In addition to the work at BHS, we will have the opportunity to drastically upgrade our middle school facilities as well over the next couple years. We have been working on a plan to upgrade our secondary facilities for quite some time, and I am excited to see the construction begin,” said BPSD Superintendent Dr. Gary W. Quinn when discussing the groundbreaking ceremony.

Over the next year and a half, BHS will be transformed into a 9-12 high school including the construction of a freshman center which will be constructed on the southwest corner of the existing BHS structure, but will not be a stand-alone building. The project is scheduled to be completed in August 2015.

Additionally, Central Middle School will receive a large scale renovation and the current Madison Middle School will be vacated as Madison students and staff move to the current Bartlesville Mid-High School facility.

“It will certainly be a busy and challenging few years as we have multiple projects going on throughout the district, but I look forward to the end result which will be outstanding secondary facilities for our students,” remarked Quinn.
