Curriculum
Purchase instructional materials which cannot be afforded in the General Fund
For years patrons have approved bond issue funding for curricular materials since the General Fund is inadequate for all of the needs. Over its 7-year span the 2012 bond will provide about $20 per student per year for such needs.
The bond will replenish important district-wide instructional programs like the FOSS Science Kits in the elementary schools and STC Inquiry Science Modules in the middle schools.
Previous bonds provided some updated microscopes in grades 9-12, but there are still unmet microscope needs across the four secondary schools and all of them are still using some decades-old balances, hot plates, glassware, and other lab equipment which will be replaced as needed.
The state-allocated textbook funds provides about $50 per student per year, but a typical high school textbook costs $75 and some top $100. The bond will provide about $12.50 per student per year to help ensure every student has needed textbooks.
There is also funding to help supply guided reading materials and books to classrooms as part of the district's continuing focus on improving reading achievement.
