At the end of last semester, Class 302 carefully prepared a Taiwan culture box for their friends at Foundations School in Florida, USA. Inside, they included handmade spring couplets, red envelopes, traditional toys, and Taiwanese snacks. They even recorded a packing video to share Taiwan’s culture with their American friends.
As soon as the new semester started, we received a culture box from our American friends! The box had a striking American flag design and was filled with wonderful surprises: hand-drawn fairy tale posters, Christmas decorations, hand-painted ugly sweaters, storybooks, and a football. On unboxing day, Principal Wenzhen joined us to share the excitement! Teacher Yingjun opened the box, while Teacher Yuhua introduced each item. Every time something new was taken out, the students cheered with excitement—it was a lively and joyful moment!
To fully appreciate the culture box, we decided to introduce its contents week by week. Our first theme was "Ugly Sweaters." Ugly sweaters represent traditional, brightly colored sweaters knitted by older family members. Once considered "old-fashioned" by younger generations, they have now become a fun fashion trend. In fact, the third Friday of December is celebrated as National Ugly Sweater Day in the U.S.!
To experience this tradition, Class 302 held a fashion show featuring ugly sweaters, with Principal Wenzhen and Teacher Yingjun leading the way. The students proudly showcased the cute sweater designs from their American friends, making the event fun and entertaining. Finally, we ended our culture box unboxing day by tasting an American classic—OREO cookies, which have been loved worldwide since 1912! What a perfect way to celebrate this wonderful cultural exchange!
