Do you remember last September when Class 502 had their first meeting with "Just Sauveur School" on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean? The excitement from that first exchange continues today! Currently, the students at Just Sauveur School are enjoying their summer vacation, while 502 students here are bundling up in the cold winter weather. The children were amazed, saying, “It’s so cold here, but they’re having summer vacation!” Teacher Zhen-Yi explained with a smile that this is because Yungning is in the Northern Hemisphere, while their school is in the Southern Hemisphere. This fun difference is what makes international exchanges so special, helping the children experience new cultures and understand the world better.
For the second stage of the exchange, both schools will introduce the unique features of their campuses. 502 integrated this task into their international education lessons. The class was divided into four groups, each responsible for showcasing one Yongning campus feature: Duck House, Rainbow Square, Yu Shan Library, and The Egg Sound. The students worked together to prepare English scripts, brainstorm creative ways to present their spots, and practiced hard. With guidance and encouragement from Teacher Zhen-Yi, they confidently performed in front of the camera. Teacher Zhen-Yi took on the role of director and editor, turning their efforts into four delightful short videos in English.
When these videos were sent 8,651 kilometers away to Réunion Island, they brought Yungning’s charm and culture to life for their new friends. Meanwhile, the 502 students eagerly look forward to seeing the videos of their partners introducing their school. It’s a wonderful way to connect and learn from each other’s unique cultures!
Every international exchange is a journey of the heart. Through these valuable experiences, the children not only learn about distant friends but also deepen their understanding and love for their own hometown. By sharing and learning, they grow curious and respectful of the world while feeling even prouder of Yongning. We look forward to the new semester at Juste Sauveur Primary School and the continuation of this heartwarming story!
