Happy Global Village: Taiwan-Korea Student Exchange
Happy Global Village: Taiwan-Korea Student Exchange
Starting in September, the 5th-grade students from Class 501 began a fun and meaningful exchange with the teachers and students of Beondong Elementary School in Seoul, Korea! Through Padlet, we connected with our buddies one-on-one to share interests, introduce local foods, and even celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival together. Our students shared photos of their barbecue gatherings, while the Korean buddies showed us their traditional festival ceremonies. Teachers also shared warm greetings with festive stickers, making us realize just how much we have in common! These interactions brought everyone closer together.
The 5th-grade students also created special "Pyramid Self-Introductions," combining the unique square structure of Chinese characters with their personal stories. The Korean teachers mentioned how excited their students were to learn Chinese. They even used tablets to draw portraits of their Taiwanese buddies and carefully wrote greetings in Chinese, which were both neat and impressive!
After two months of exchanging messages, we finally had our online meeting on November 8! Our class kicked things off with a lively performance of Taiwan's famous "National Health Dance." In return, the Korean buddies performed a trendy APT dance. Even though we were separated by a screen, it felt like we were dancing and singing together in the same room. The energy and connection were amazing!
Next, it was time for English self-introductions. Some students brought their favorite items to show their buddies through the camera. We ended the meeting with a fun "Name Bingo" game. Kids had to guess who was on screen based on three clues, and the room was filled with cheers and laughter. Finally, two students from each side completed their Bingo cards first, wrapping up this first meeting full of joy and excitement.
Looking ahead, both Taiwan and Korea will send cultural boxes to each other. Our 5th-grade students selected five classic Taiwanese snacks and traditional toys for their box. They are also busy practicing the games to make the next session in December even more fun. What kind of surprises will happen during the cultural box exchange? Let's look forward to the next exciting online meeting together!
