Happy Global Village — First Encounter with Réunion Island
Happy Global Village — First Encounter with Réunion Island
This semester’s international exchange activity has brought us to the “Réunion Island,” located in the Indian Ocean. Under the guidance of Teacher Cheng-Yi, the students of Class 502 have established a bridge of friendship through letter exchanges with École Just Sauveur, a school in Réunion.
Réunion Island (La Réunion) is a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean, about 700 kilometers east of Madagascar. The island’s culture is incredibly diverse, blending European, African, and Asian influences. The local residents primarily speak French.
The first stage of the exchange between Class 502 and École Just Sauveur began with a “pen pal pairing” system. The students were paired up, forming study partners who introduced themselves and their local cultures to each other. The children from Réunion enthusiastically shared details about their families in their letters, expressing the importance they place on family relationships. Meanwhile, the students from Yung-Ning not only introduced their interests but also shared their unique traits, favorite Taiwanese foods, and their excitement for this cultural exchange.
Every cultural exchange is a heart-to-heart connection. It not only broadens the students' international perspectives but also plants seeds of understanding, respect, and friendship towards different cultures. These beautiful interactions will become cherished memories for the children, paving the way for even more meaningful cross-cultural exchanges in the future.
