Happy Global Village: Exploring the World of Fairy Tales with Our American Friends (Part 2)
Do you remember Class 302's first animated storybook, Cinderella?
This month, we completed our second animated storybook — Yeh Shen! With the experience from making Cinderella, the students of Class 302 felt more confident and skilled in both drawing and filming this time.
The story of Yeh Shen is set in a minority tribe in Yunnan, China. Its costumes and settings were fresh and challenging for the students. Thanks to Teacher Hsin-Fu’s guidance, the students used their observation and creativity to quickly complete all the characters and scenes. Teacher Ying-Chun also noticed that the students had improved their language comprehension skills and could immerse themselves in the story even faster while preparing their lines.
After finishing the second storybook, we shared it with our partner school in the U.S. right away. The teachers and students there gave amazing feedback, saying that Taiwanese students have such great imagination and brought the story of Yeh Shen to life in a fun and vivid way!
Meanwhile, the students and teachers of Foundations School in the U.S. also sent us a record of their cultural comparison performance. After reading both Cinderella and Yeh Shen, they created a presentation focusing on similar scenes from the two stories. With expressive acting, carefully designed costumes, and props, they vividly recreated important moments from the stories.
On November 14th, we invited Principal Wen-Chen to join Class 302 in watching this exciting performance. As the teacher showed each page of the presentation, the students were quick to guess the part of the story it represented. After the performance, they all agreed that the U.S. partner students did an amazing job. Even though it was just photos, they could clearly feel the emotions and storytelling. The class especially loved the effort put into the costumes. Their favorite scene was Yeh Shen with her fish friend, which became a sweet memory of this cultural exchange.
Principal Wen-Chen shared with the students how lucky they were to connect with friends from outside Taiwan and to participate in such a fun and meaningful reading activity together. She encouraged the students to complete their tasks with responsibility, as this would give them more opportunities to engage in enriching and enjoyable exchanges like this, making life more colorful.
Next, we will exchange culture boxes with our U.S. partners, filled with stories and surprises from each culture. We’re looking forward to the next wonderful exchange!
