This semester, our international exchange club connected with our good friends at Beondong Elementary School in Seoul, Korea. Today, our 5th and 6th-grade students introduced Taiwan’s beautiful mountains and seas to the Korean students!
At the beginning, Principal Peng warmly greeted everyone in Korean by saying "만나서 반가워요" (Nice to meet you) and explained that Taiwan was once called "Formosa" because of its amazing mountains and seas. This marked the start of our video meeting.
While preparing the presentation, our club students voted to pick Taiwan’s "Three Seas and Three Mountains":
For the seas, they chose Gaomei Wetlands on the west coast, Qingshui Cliffs in Hualien, and Yuguang Island in Tainan.
For the mountains, they picked Daxue Mountain in Taichung, Yushan (Taiwan’s highest peak), and the famous Alishan.
We also introduced the black-faced spoonbill, which can now be seen at Gaomei Wetlands thanks to successful conservation efforts, and the Mikado pheasant, a national treasure found on Yushan.
Students used technology to gather information, select the most important points, and work together online to create the presentation. To help our Korean friends understand better, they even added Korean translations.
During today's online exchange, Yungning students presented in English and Korean to show Taiwan’s beauty. They also organized a fun quiz, and the Korean students answered all the questions correctly, showing they listened carefully!
During the free Q&A session, the Korean students eagerly asked questions, and our students worked together as a team to answer them.
One Korean student was very curious about the Mikado pheasant on the NT$1000 bill and asked, "Can the Mikado pheasant fly?" Yungning students answered, "Yes, but it doesn’t fly very high."
Another question was, "Where does Yushan rank among the world’s highest mountains?" After a quick search, we found out Yushan is the 27th highest peak in the world!
After the exchange, the Korean students shared their thoughts on Padlet:
"The presentation was amazing! Very clear and lively! It’s so impressive you could even add Korean explanations! The quiz was super fun! I learned so much and really want to visit Taiwan now!"
Seeing these happy messages, everyone felt that promoting Taiwan through international exchange is truly a meaningful and wonderful experience!
