Happy Global Village - Taiwan-Korea Traditional Toys and Cultural Exchange
The cultural exchange between Class 501 and Korea is in full swing! Through the cultural box exchange activity, we promised to send each other traditional toys, snacks, and heartfelt handwritten letters. The students at Class 501 eagerly discussed and carefully selected five iconic snacks and toys, then created hand-drawn introduction cards for the items in the box. On packing day, the classroom was filled with anticipation and excitement, with laughter echoing throughout, even infecting the teachers with the joyous atmosphere.
After weeks of waiting, we finally received the cultural box from Korea! The moment we opened it, we were greeted with cards from our Korean friends, as well as Korean snacks and traditional toys. The classroom erupted with excitement. Students couldn’t help but exclaim in delight, and Teacher Sunny and the principal joined in to experience the Korean shuttlecock game and snacks, immersing themselves in the charm of a different culture. This unboxing activity was not only fun but also made everyone eagerly look forward to the upcoming video exchange!
On December 13th, we had our second video exchange. On this day, we and our Korean buddies introduced how to play the traditional toys and had a great time together on camera. It turned out that Korea’s Gonggi is very similar to Taiwan’s beanbag toss, and hopscotch is a shared childhood memory for both. Our space balloons and spinning tops amazed our Korean friends, who couldn’t stop praising them, while Korea’s finger-string game left the Class 501 students in awe, sparking their curiosity to learn it.
After a series of exchange activities, Class 501’s students were filled with insights and joy. Some shared that through this exchange, they not only learned how to introduce themselves in English but also bravely interacted with their Korean buddies and even picked up a bit of Korean. While learning about Korean culture, they also deepened their understanding of Taiwan’s traditions. The children all agreed that while they’ve exchanged several times already, each experience is exciting, and they can’t wait for the next one!
The Korean teachers and students also gained a lot from this cultural exchange with Yungning. They shared the snacks and toys we sent with other classes, using them to introduce Taiwan’s culture to more students. Wujia’s children not only benefited personally but also became little cultural ambassadors, using their smiles and enthusiasm to represent Taiwan’s culture. This cross-border friendship and cultural exchange have become the most beautiful memories in everyone’s hearts.
