Please keep in mind before reading the items below:
Regardless of weather conditions, the housing/shelter/resident’s programs will remain open. Staff will be expected to report to work as scheduled.
During inclement weather at all other sites:
If the county where your branch/worksite is located declares a Level 2 Snow Emergency, facilities will remain open, but may operate at a reduced staff level or cancel programming. You should call your facility prior to coming in for a scheduled shift. Early Learning Centers will close at a Level 2 snow emergency.
If a Level 3 Snow Emergency is declared, YMCA’s within the affected areas will close and all classes/programs will be cancelled.
Compensation for weather-related closings: For staff affected by school closings, the following options are available: 1) You may take the day off without compensation 2) Full and part time plus staff may opt to use benefit time (vacation/personal time if available) 3) You may work at another site (SDO site, branch, educare center) for a period of time equal to your normally scheduled hours at their usual pay rate. You should contact your supervisor to determine where to report.
When a branch or Early Learning Center closes due to a calamity, all staff scheduled to work will be compensated for the scheduled hours that were not worked because of the facility closure.
If you live in a county where a Level 3 snow emergency is declared, you should not report to work. You will be compensated your regular pay (even if your branch is not a level 3) as long as you reside in a county that is contiguous to your work location’s county.
Examples:
● Susan’s work location is Franklin County, and she lives in Fairfield County. Fairfield County has declared a Level 3 snow emergency; Franklin is at Level 2. Susan should not report to work and will be compensated regularly.
● Nancy lives in Knox County (which is not contiguous to Franklin), and works in Franklin. Knox is Level 3, Franklin is Level 2. Nancy should not report to work, but will need to use benefit time in order to be compensated.
Other points of clarification:
In the event a calamity affects a location for multiple days, alternative work arrangements may be made (i.e. placement at another location). You should consult the YMCA website for information on multi-day closures.
If the branch/location is open, and you have the option of reporting or not reporting, you will need to report to work or use available benefit time in order to be compensated. If unclear about whether or not to report, you should contact your supervisor.
The management team reserves the right to adjust staffing levels at any time. If you are sent home because of low participation in your area of supervision (i.e. # of campers, # of swimmers), you will not be compensated for hours missed.
