Ensuring the safety of our staff is a top priority at the Y. While we strive to prevent accidents, they can occur. In the event that an employee is injured at work, it is essential to follow a few crucial steps.
1. Attend to the employee and see if they need outside medical attention. If the situation warrants it, contact the employees' emergency contacts.
2. Please complete an online incident report promptly after the injury occurs. This report will notify Elissa James from Risk Management and Julie Dodge from HR about the staff injury.
3. If the employee requires outside medical attention, please ensure that the top section of the BWC form, "First Report of Injury," is completed. A copy should be sent to HR, and the employee should bring the form to their medical provider. Please click here for the comprehensive injury packet each injured worker should take when seeking care as a result of a workplace injury
4. Please remember that a doctor must approve any staff injuries requiring medical attention before the individual can return to work. Kindly send the return-to-work note to Julie Dodge or email it to peopleandculturetickets@ymcacolumbus.org so we can add it to the employee's file
5. If a staff member experiences an injury that prevents them from returning to their original position or if they have specific restrictions, the YMCA is committed to accommodating light-duty work options. Reach out to Julie Dodge to discuss return-to-work scenarios. Our primary goal is to ensure a quick and safe transition back to work.
When a work-related injury occurs, we want staff to seek the medical attention they need. When discussing care with them, please keep in mind that emergency rooms should be utilized for emergencies only. Occupational Medicine, Occupational Health, or WorkHealth are always the preferred options for workplace injuries. Staff should utilize WellNow, Concentra, or OhioHealth WorkHealth locations whenever possible.
