10 Rules of Pump Room Safety
1. ALWAYS wear personal protective equipment: safety glasses, gloves, apron, and dust mask.
2. ALWAYS wear rubber-soled shoes while entering the pump room.
3. ALWAYS smell for any fumes when entering. If present, leave the pump room immediately and report to supervisor.
4. ALWAYS work with only one chemical at a time; never mix chemicals.
5. ALWAYS add chemicals to water slowly, not water to chemicals.
6. ALWAYS keep head clearly to the side when opening hair and lint strainers.
7. ALWAYS scan area for potential trip hazards.
8. ALWAYS report any leaks, as standing water in pump rooms must be eliminated.
9. ALWAYS keep the pump room clean and clear of non-pool equipment.
10. ALWAYS scan for exposed electrical wires. If questionable wiring exists, report to supervisor.
