Purpose:
To explore and understand personal identity in relation to self, family, and community.
To communicate identity concepts effectively through photography.
Essential Questions:
How do artists & designers create works of art or design that effectively communicate?
How do people contribute to awareness and understanding of their lives and the lives of their communities through art-making/photography?
My definition of identity is something that defines people specifically yourself. Throughout this project, I feel like I was able to capture different aspects of people's identities, which made me realize there are so many different things that people consider themselves to be defined by.
I think the most successful assignment for me was the self-identity and community assignment. With the self-identity and community assignment, I feel I was able to capture things and places that mean a lot to me, and specifically for the community pictures it really captures the essence of Yarmouth I imagine.
The family assignment was more difficult because I didn’t have much family in this household to take pictures of and I didn’t feel like taking a picture of my house was really defining of my mom.
I approached this project in a unique and original way by trying to think outside of the box, specifically for the community assignment, I wasn’t really sure how I wanted this capture but I feel like capturing a simple place was the best way to share what I think of Yarmouth as a community.
If I did this project again I would definitely put more thought into taking my pictures. I feel like this whole assignment was kind of rushed at the end of the year but I also feel like some of my pictures were successful even though it was just one idea I had.
