Reflection:
I was influenced by a piece from the Ptolemaic Period from Egypt. At the beginning of this project I was looking at other pieces from Egypt but from different time periods. I was drawn to this specific piece because there was no other piece of this color or pattern. The blue and teal tones really caught my eye. When making my speaker I tried to mimic those colors and the pattern that was on the bowl to some extent. I stuck to the only design that was on the piece I was inspired by, trying to get the color super similar was difficult but overall I feel like I did well with that aspect.
My speaker was really effective and definitely changed the sound. The sound is more amplified and overall just more echoey. I think I got these results because the sound has a large opening for it to escape and the sound bounces off the sides of the piece. To possibly get better results I could’ve made it a little wider at the end.
Another student's work that I was inspired by was Brooke’s. Her work was so detailed and matched the piece she was inspired by incredibly well. She spent so much time inside and outside of class to work on her piece and it showed. I think her piece overall was quite challenging shaping it and carving the details into it. The carving in particular was so intricate and I am so impressed with the amount of work that was done to make this piece match the inspiration so well.
