Reflection:
After doing some research and looking at ramen bowls on Pinterest, I decided I wanted to throw my bowls. I knew throwing my bowl was going to be tricky to get the dimensions that were needed, but I knew I had a better chance at throwing than at molding. Looking at my bowls now I am beyond happy that I threw them, I love the shapes of my bowls and the size of them. If I had more time I would’ve challenged myself to make my bowls wider, although I love the shape of them now a wider bowl would have been cool. I also struggled a little bit with making the foot on each bowl but after some trial and error I felt more confident in my abilities and I was glad I threw my bowls so I could get the smaller-looking foot. Overall, I love how my bowls turned out craftsmanship-wise, and the glazing method I chose to do made them even better.
The new method I chose to do was the bubble method. I had seen some images of old classwork from past students, as well as pictures on Pinterest and Youtube of the bubble glazing and I loved how they turned out. When researching I also found a cool tie-dye method but I ultimately resorted back to the bubble method because something about it I was drawn to. After a little bit of trial and error finding the right container and the right consistency of a glaze, I was able to nail down the bubble method. I chose to do my bubbles in two different colors, one being a darker version of the first glaze I used for the first layer of bubbles. If I were to do this again I would have come more prepared with the right container to use as a couple of spills happened. But overall, I am extremely happy with how my glazing technique turned out and I am glad I was able to do it.
