Looking at Israel Davis’s work benefited me because I was inspired to try a different type of glazing technique on my mug and a different vibe on my whole mug. I tend to like simpler and more lighter and brighter pieces but looking at his work influenced me to expand my horizons and try the stamping techniques and messy glazing look. I wish I was able to use different techniques to make the piece look messy but I felt rushed on the glazing part a little bit. Working with this artist’s style was able to help me get my message across to the viewer about how everybody is different and being different or having “flaws” you are still beautiful. This is because the messiness of his pieces was the chaoticness of society in my piece and then the message different is beautiful all around it made it stand out.
The shape of my mug didn’t turn out how I wanted it to, it shrunk more than I thought it would therefore my travel mug cover doesn’t fit. And since it was a slab and I still kind of struggle with slabs the bump where the pieces were smoothed together is still visible so I wish I was able to have a better process of making the actual mug, but my glazing process was fun as I was able to try stamping for the first time so I got it to look neat in the text but messy everywhere else. I wish I could’ve tried throwing for this project.
