What constitutes a “series” when it comes to ceramics?

Reflection:
My bowls are all the same size and consist of the same concept and colors overall. The inside of my bowls are all the same glazing patterns but they came out each looking a little different. I was inspired to choose those glaze colors from a bowl that Holly has done in the past and even comparing my bowls to that example bowl the result of the glaze is completely different. To connect the outside of my bowls I decided to do a space/galaxy theme since I have always loved astronomy and I felt like I hadn’t connected that aspect of my life to any of my ceramic pieces. Although the color of each design on the outside is different they still stick together through the concept of astronomy.
The first thing that I learned while doing this project is that in order to keep throwing the same size of something you should have another thrown piece in front of you for inspiration. Without that piece of inspiration in front of you I feel like creating a piece that is identical is extremely difficult. I now understand the measures professionals have to take who create sets for a living. A second thing that I learned about is the cone 5 glazes and how they interact with each other. They interact differently than how cone 4 glazes react with each other and I find that really interesting. The last thing I learned is how to use a tombo, this is a tool used in ceramics to ensure that each piece is the same width and depth by using two chopsticks and marking them to where your piece should be.
