Final Reflection:
Out of all the class projects we did in Ceramics III, I think the project that I am most proud of is my thrown ramen bowls with the unique glazing technique. I think this was my most successful piece because the size of the bowls were the exact sizes I wanted to throw. The impact this work had on my learning was definitely huge, I learned so much from doing the bubble glazing technique. If this was going to just be a boring glaze project I don’t think I would have liked them as much. My favorite part of this project was probably blowing the bubbles onto the piece and trying the Cactus Green glaze on the inside of my bowl that left the dots. I have always loved this type of glaze, a lot of my Pinterest boards have pieces with glazing like this so I fell in love with this piece as soon as it came out of the kiln.
The most informative project/thing we did during the semester was probably the meaningful mugs assignment. I didn’t like the background type of thing on this project, but learning about how to make a slab mug, and learning about the shrinking was really impactful. I think if this project was done again, maybe a different approach of what to put on the mug glaze-wise. I feel we do a lot of projects that show meaningful things to us. But overall, I really enjoyed the building part of this project, and liked how the glaze turned out on my free for all mug, with the built-in lid.
My goal for this semester in my last ceramics class was to have more time on the wheel to strengthen and improve my skills. I feel that I was able to achieve this goal as two out of three of my assignments were all thrown. I love how each thrown piece came out, and I didn’t really like my slab pieces, because they were messy looking. Overall, I am very proud of all of my pieces this semester, and I think these are the pieces I like most out of all of my ceramics pieces.
