Painted Brick
The name of my business is Painted Brick and my target market is people who are looking for a mural artist, from in-home projects to restaurant walls, you’re guaranteed to find an artist who matches your needs on our website. Our site provides a space for artists to showcase their work and promote themselves in a specialized way to mural artists, making it easy for customers to find and contact muralists in their area.
For my first design, I used handwritten text to convey creation and uniqueness, and the pile of bricks represents multiple potential artists and the painted one on top represents the artist that's perfect for your needs. I chose the color brick and a light blue for the paint because they looked pretty together, and can be easily repurposed for branding.
I learned about versatility and being able to repurpose a logo for different needs, (social media, posters, websites, etc.). I learned about simplicity, so that my logo has clarity and is clear in what it promotes, and I learned about historical context, and using the history of my product to design my logos
We've long used symbols to represent ourselves and create a sense of belonging and community. Additionally, family emblems have had an impact and influence on modern brands related to the meaning of the logo.
McDonald's "Golden Arches" were based on an architectural detail required in all McDonald's restaurants during the 1990s, and evolved into the "M" we know today. FedEx started as Federal Express and eventually changed its name for clarity and didn't emphasize the arrow in its logo for subtlety.
Milton Glaser designed the "I love NY" logo in 1977 and didn't expect it to take off. The logo was part of a program aimed to raise money for a struggling city that was full of crime and struggling financially and it was a big hit. Currently, merchandise with the logo raises over 30 million dollars a year.
I learned that brands use logos to differentiate themselves from competitors and other companies to create a clear sense of belonging and positive messaging. Graphic Designers make these logos unique by including hidden shapes, symbols, or messaging into their work that represents the brand.
