Reflection:
I chose this species because ever since I was little, I’ve had a particular interest in bats, mostly because of my dad. I think they’re incredible animals, and I wanted to bring that aspect of my life into a project. The In the United States, the Tri-Colored bat lives throughout eastern North America, with its westmost extent to around Colorado.
The tricolored bat is insectivorous, meaning it eats insects, including mosquitoes, beetles, ants, moths, and cicadas to grow. It gets its food using echolocation, which helps it navigate and search for prey.
These bats will live in caves, mines, and even buildings, as well as orchards, urban areas, and woodlands. Usually hunting in open areas, they sleep and raise young in secluded areas such as caves.
I painted a picture of Tri-Colored bats infected with White-nose syndrome to raise awareness about their endangered status. The disease that's wiping out their population can also have an impact on humans as it may cause a surge in mosquito populations, which can carry diseases. This unit taught me that many more species are endangered than I previously believed, and we need to take more action to prevent their extinction.
