Reflection:
My biggest challenge while creating this project was probably trying to figure out how to include my background/paper color into my piece, and I ended up adding additional orange to make it feel more cohesive. Additionally, I found it difficult to know when to stop adding to it, and I think I overworked it in some parts, but I used a kneaded eraser to remove some of the pastels.
It was helpful to practice working with the pastels and getting used to the material, but I would have liked to work more with them, practicing blending colors and creating shadows a little more. I think that would’ve helped me in the long run.
I used my lines to show the curves and ridges of the shell and used warm colors to convey warmth, and cool colors in the background for emphasis. I tried to make my lines follow the curve and shape of the shell, and for some parts, I think I was successful, but there are also sections I wished I had taken more time with. Overall, I’m neither happy nor upset with my drawing, but I wish it was better planned out on my part.
