Purpose:
To understand the concept of mind mapping;
To use it as a creative tool for generating and organizing ideas;
To consider ideas, words, symbols, that make you, “YOU”;
To develop your visual voice.
I chose to represent my identity through my interests, music tastes, sports, movies I enjoy, and words that describe me, as well as images of some of these items/things.
I illustrated some of my favorite things, such as a camera for photography, a basketball, my favorite animal, and other things that I felt specifically related to me. I used a fine point and quick strokes to add detail using the alcohol markers so that they wouldn’t bleed as much, allowing me to add more detail with more precision.
I used both alcohol markers and cut-out pieces of paper to express my creativity and identity. I loved how I was able to bring a 3D element into my artwork by slightly bending the paper so it lifted off of the canvas. It makes the finished piece more eye-catching. These elements helped me explore my visual voice by allowing my imagination to extend beyond just two-dimensional artwork.
