For this drawing, I chose a nest with considerable flyaways, because I thought it would add more interest than a nest that was completely uniform. I landed on light-colored paper to make my lines pop and used lots of dry brush techniques for shading, which I think could've been done better. Then I added white acrylic paint for highlights, and cut strips of patterned green paper to mimic how a bird might weave unconventional items into their nests, as well as add more visual interest to the piece. I liked using the Ink because it flowed well on the paper and felt natural, and I could use the paint minimally after. I enjoyed doing the practice pieces because it helped me figure out what was, and wasn't, working. I think I could've made my values more extreme, which would've made my finished work look less flat.
