THE SISTERS STUCK IN THE DARK

One day there was a girl named Olivia. She lived on a farm with her mom, her dad and her 2 sisters: Anna and Roseta. Her and her sisters would play in the barn with the horses and sheep all day long. Then it became dark and Olivia couldn’t find her sisters, she looked all around but she could not. But then she heard Roseta's scream coming from the barn. She ran to the barn as fast as she could. But when she got their she saw Roseta standing there staring at Anna laying on the ground. Olivia looked at Anna and she looked like she had been poisioned. So she and Roseta ran to the farmhouse and they pulled on the door but it wouldn’t budge. They pulled and pulled but it would not move one little inch.

”What are we going to do, Olivia? We're trapped out here and whoever poisoned Anna will maybe come for us!”. Olivia kept thinking and thinking and got an idea.

”Well, of course! We will set out traps, sis, so it can not find us or get us.”

Roseta thought that was a good idea, so they used stacks of firewood to make traps. When they were done they dragged Anna into the shed and covered her up. Then they used extra blankets to cover up there in the cold barn and went to sleep.

The next day when they woke up, Anna was back up on her feet and they could open the farmhouse doors and everything was normal. But the monster was still lurking in the shadows freely.

HOW MY FRIEND AND I HAD AN UP AND DOWN MOMENT

One day I had moved from my old house. That meant that I had to go to a new school. I was very afraid because I thought that I would get embarrassed in front of millions of people. Then, my mom told me that if they're laughing, then laugh with them so that you won’t feel embarrassed. So I took her advice on the first day of school just in case.

When I got to school a girl came up to me and asked if I was new. I said yes and she asked me if we could be friends. I was feeling warmer inside to have a friend by my side so I told her yes. Then, I asked for her name and she said that her name was Mallory. I told her my name.

The next day, when I got to school, I was looking for her. She was with a group of friends. I came up to her and said hi. The other people looked at Mallory giving her the stink eye. She told me to go away and bother someone else. I felt my heart sink when she said that. I thought that we would be good friends until she had said that to me. When I first saw her, she looked very nice. It felt suspicious that she had said that because she looked worried when after she said that. Maybe she was trying to act cool with those people, but when she is with someone else she acts so nice.

At lunch she saw me sitting by myself depressed. She came up to me and apologized. She said that she was sorry and that she was just trying to act cool just like the cool kids. I told her that it was ok. She told me that she would never hang with those kids ever again. I said that she made the right choice. She agreed. Later that day we hung out at the park. We decided that if we were in a group of kids, then we must always remember our friends before anything else.

Chili Recipe

• One pound of ground beef
• 1 onion chopped
• 1 can of stewed tomatoes
• 1 can of tomato sauce
• 1 can of kidney beans
• 1 cup water
• 1 pinch of chili powder
• 1 pinch of garlic powder
• Add salt and pepper as needed

How to Cook the Chili

Step One : In a large pan, put in your beef and onion and cook until the meat has browned and the onions had become tender.

Step Two: Then, add your tomatoes with juice, tomato sauce, beans, and water.

Step Three : Put in all of your chili powder, garlic powder, salt and ground black pepper.

Step Four: Bring the chili to a boil, then put your heat on low and cook covered for 15 minutes.

POWERS ACADEMY

“Powers Academy is a school for the gifted kids. Some of the kids who attend are the sons and daughters of villains and heroes in the world. This school teaches you how to unlock and use your powers. You could be the next generation of superheroes or villains! So son, what do you say, want to attend? Your friends Daniel and Evan will be attending this year.” asked Dad.

”Fine I’ll attend the Academy. But I don’t know what my powers are. Also, you owe me for this,” I said.

”The son of black lightning and invisible woman has to have our powers, right, honey?” Dad asked Mom who was walking into my room.

”Sure, but it is possible he could have different powers than you and I,” Mom said, pushing Dad out of my room.

My phone rings a few moments later. ”Dude, could you meet me at the clearing in the middle of the forest in like 10 minutes?” said a voice in a rush.

”Dude, Evan, calm down! I’ll be there as soon as I can,” I said, hanging up the phone.

As I am walking out the door, I see Daniel flying over. ”Yo, dude, come down here,” I yelled to flag him down.

”Hey man you got the call from Evan, too?” Daniel asked, looking around.

”Yeah man, but you should turn back to normal before someone sees you. Let’s just walk to the clearing” I said.

”Fine, SHAZAM! Happy now?” Daniel asked, crossing his arms as a bolt of lightning struck him.

“Whatever, let’s just go,” I said starting to walk towards the forest.

As we approached the clearing, I called out, “OK! What is it that you wanted to show us? Wait... where is he?”

”I’m below you," Evan answered, phasing up from the ground.

”Cool! You finally got your powers,” I said, patting him on the back.

”Hey why don’t we have little brawl between all of us. Let’s see who is the strongest of us three,” Daniel said.

”I’m down for that, and it will give me some practice using my powers,” Evan said, as spikes started to poke through his skin.

”OK, let’s power up - SHAZAM!” Daniel said as a bolt of lightning struck him.

I flew up above the clearning and went invisible with an electrical aura around me.

”The brawl will begin in 3...” Daniel said.

”2... let’s see what you can do, Evan,” I said staring at him.

“1... go!” Evan said, running at me as I flew towards him.

”Take this!” Evan said, shooting a spike at me.

I created an invisible psionic energy barrier and went invisible. ”WOW! That’s a new ability! Maybe I can use it to attack as well as defend,” I said, creating an invisible bubble around Daniel and Evan.

“What the heck is this? My spikes can’t break it,” Evan said, hitting the bubble with his spikes.

"OK let’s try this. SHAZAM!” Daniel yelled as a bolt of lightning struck the bubble and destroyed it.

“OK let’s turn back SHAZ... um...” Daniel tried to say, but I put a small barrier on his mouth and reappeared next to him, using my electrical aura to shock him until he was knocked out.

”DC, you win! You're the strongest. Now, can you let me out of this bubble?” Evan said.

”Ooo I knew I was forgetting something. Wait can’t you phase through it?” I asked freeing him from the bubble.

”To answer your question no I couldn’t phase through your barrier,” Evan said walking over to us.

"Well, school starts in two weeks, so this will give us all some time to practice powers. I’m going to head home for the day. I’ll see you guys at Powers Academy,” I said starting to walk away from them towards the tree line.

Two weeks later at the bus stop, Daniel looked down the street complaining, "Where is the bus?"

“Dude, chill. It’ll be here soon. Will you speak of the devil? Here it comes,” I said, pointing down the road. As the bus was pulling up to the stop Evan came running, not seeing the bus until the last second.

”Evan, watch out!” Daniel yelled, as a boy wearing all black and a girl wearing all white jumped into action. They jumped in front of the bus and caught it.

”Are you okay?” asked the girl, helping Evan to his feet.

”You should be more careful!” the boy said, crossing his arms.

”Hey thanks for the save! What are your names?” Evan asked rubbing his head.

“I’m Abymael, but everyone calls me Mael, and this is my sister Abigail,” he replied, boarding the bus.

“Nice to meet you,” Abigail said with a smile, sitting next to her brother.

”Hey, is this seat taken?” asked a girl standing next to my seat.

”No you can sit here,” I said, moving my bookbag.

”My name is Cailin, what’s yours?” Cailin asked looking at me.

”My name is Dominick, nice to meet you,“ I said.

"Okay, we are your combat teachers: Batman, Captain America, Black Canary, and me, Black Widow.” Black Widow said with her arms crossed as she stood in front of our group in the school gym.

”We have put you all in groups of six people. When we call you, go and join your group,” Captain America said holding up a list, “We are going to have a tournament. The winning group gets a suit made of Vibranium. It is lighter, completely bulletproof and it absorbs kinetic energy for redistribution.”

Black Canary added, “It can fit in anything you want."

"Now that you know your prize, Alpha and Z team your up first everyone else into the bleachers.” Batman said pointing out our groups as everyone else walked in to the bleachers.”

”The first match will be between Alpha Squad, which includes Yang (Abigail), Yin (Abymael), Capt. Marvel (Daniel), Shadow Spyke (Evan), Black Arrow (Cailin), and Voltage (Dominic) vs Z Team's Bulk (Joey), Black Hawk (Olivia), Iron Tiger (Zack), White Beetle (Tavean), Plastic Girl (Maddy), and Fire Atom (Benjamin),” Black Canary said.

”Let the battle begin, NOW!” Batman said.

Immediately, I’m tackled by Bulk, son of Hulk. ”SHAZAM!” Daniel yells, transforming and punching Bulk in the face.

”I’ll be your opponent now show me what you got,” Fire Atom said, as I was standing up.

”Iron Tiger! Come and face me!” Yang said.

”You’re going down, little man!” Iron Tiger said with a smirk. Meanwhile, Black Hawk was charging at Yin, and Shadow Spyke was having a face off with White Beetle. In the far end of the gym was Black Arrow standing over the knocked out Plastic Girl.

”Plastic Girl has been eliminated!” Black Canary said with a smile as the she carried Plastic Girl out of the fighting area. Distracted, Black Arrow was then hit by one of Fire Atom starbolts, sending her unconscious into the wall.

”Black Arrow has been eliminated!” Batman said, pressing a button to teleport her in to the stands.

”Let’s see how you like this! SHAZAM!” Captain Marvel held Bulk above him as lightning struck them both. Then, unable to hold up the massive Bulk, he was crushed by the green giant.

”Captain Marvel and Bulk have been eliminated!"

”Voltage, you're going to be an easy win,” Fire Atom said, growing to a large size.

“Well this won’t be easy,” I said charging my hands and feet with electricity and turning invisible.

"Hey where did you go? Fight me like a man, chump!” Fire Atom said as I reappeared and striking a pressure point in his arm and vanishing again. ”My arm! I can’t move it! What did you do to it?” Fire Atom said, looking around for me.

”I hit a pressure point in your arm. It will temporarily numb it,” I said, striking one in his other arm. ”You see, there is one big problem with powers like yours. When you grow, your weak spots are bigger as well. Your movement speed drops, but power grows. By sending electricity through your pressure point, I can temporarily numb that part of your body. But there is one pressure point that can end this battle in one hit and its located... at the base of the neck.” One thousand volts of electricity hit Fire Atom's neck as he shrank to normal size.

“Fire Atom, Black Hawk, Yang, Yin, and Shadow Spyke have been eliminated,” Batman said as he pressed the button to teleport them into the bleachers.

”Wait, what the heck happened? How did everyone else on our team get eliminated?” I said, facing White beetle and Iron Tiger. I quickly created a barrier around Iron Tiger. As Iron Tiger attacked the barrier, White Beetle shot a energy blast at me, while moving closer.

“Hey, White Beetle, do you know the heroes Thunder, Black Lightning, Lightning, and The Invisible Woman?” I asked, just dodging the energy blast.

“Yeah. What about them? What's your name?” White Beetle asked, turning the blasters to blades.

I shifted my density so I couldn’t be cut and grabbed his blades.

“What the what? You should be bleeding from catching my blades!” White beetle said, grabbing me. “If I can’t cut you then I’ll drop you instead!”

“Game, set, match...” I said, discharging millions of volts of electricity, and knocking out both White Beetle and Iron Tiger. “White Beetle, you asked what is my name. It’s Voltage, aka Dominick Pierce, son of Black Lightning and Invisible Woman and brother of Thunder and Lightning.”

“Voltage has won the tournament so the custom vibranium suits goes to Alpha Squad!”

This song is about how the weight of lies can bring you down and your lies will always follow you around. “The weight of lies will bring you down/And follow you to every town 'cause/Nothing happens here that doesn't happen there/When you run make sure you run/To something and not away from 'cause/Lies don't need an aeroplane to chase you down” This implies that the lies and fibs you tell will always follow you around and weigh down your conscience.

Thomas Rhett- Life Changes

This song reveals how life is always changing, and nothing you do will be able to stop it. “Ain't it funny how life changes/You wake up, ain't nothing the same and life changes/You can't stop it, just hop on the train and/You never know what's gonna happen/You make your plans and you hear god laughing/Life changes, and I wouldn't change it for the world, the world, oh no” This means you should just go with the flow instead of trying to change your life’s course. As the song says, you never know what’s going to happen, so just live life instead of trying to plan it out.

Avett Brothers- Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise

This song by the Avett Brothers reveals how society pressures one another into living their life a certain way and there is only one right way to live. The lyrics “In the fine print they tell me what's wrong and what's right/And it comes in black and it comes in white/And I'm frightened by those that don't see it” This is just saying that society believes they have the authority to tell others how to live their life. The chorus of the song, “There was a dream and one day I could see it/Like a bird in a cage I broke in /And demanded that somebody free it/And there was a kid with a head full of doubt/So I'll scream 'til I die /And the last of those bad thoughts are finally out” is saying that you should follow your dreams and don’t let anyone influence your dreams by putting bad thoughts into your head. The singer is saying how there is a kid that has doubt about his feelings and the singer will scream until the kid realizes that none of those things are true.

FETTUCCINE Alfredo Recipe

What You Need:

• ½ lb. fettuccine uncooked
• 1lb. Boneless skinless chicken breasts , cut into strips
• 1~¼ cups fat free reduced ~sodium chicken broth
• 4 tsp.flour
• 4 oz. ( ½ of 8 oz ) PHILADELPHIA Neufchatel cheese , cubed
• 3 Tbsp. KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese ,divided
• ¼ tsp. Garlic powder
• ¼ tsp. Pepper

How to Make It:

Cook pasta as directed on package .

Meanwhile , heat a large nonstick skillet sprayed with cooking spray on medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook 5 to 7 minutes, or until chicken is done, stirring occasionally.

Remove the chicken from the skillet. Mix broth and flour in the same skillet. Stir in the Neufchatel , 2 Tbsp. Parmesan , garlic powder and pepper. Cook 2 minutes or until mixture boils and thickens , stirring constantly with whisk. Stir in chicken.

Drain the pasta and place it in large bowl. Add the chicken mixture and toss to coat. Sprinkle with remaining Parmesan.
