WAIS held a sing-along and and holiday headband day on Wednesday, December 18. The sing along was in the All-Purpose Room with two different times: one in the morning for 7th and 8th grade, and one in the afternoon for 6th and 5th grade. The sing-along had the middle school band playing and the chorus sang. During the sing-along everyone got to show off their festive hats or headbands to the school.
Later in the week, ugly sweater day was held on Friday, December 20. Everyone got to dress in their favorite holiday sweater for school. Everyone had many interesting sweaters on Friday - even the teachers and administrators wore crazy sweaters. Thank you for participating.
Thank you everyone for wearing your holiday headbands/hats and ugly sweaters to school this week. We hope you had a good time celebrating!
Festive holiday greetings from the Scribbler staff!

The 8th Graders in WAIS recently took a field trip to Allentown Symphony Hall on Wednesday, December 17th. They went to see 6 plays being performed about stories they have read in their reading classes.
The plays they saw includedThe Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, The Celebrated Jumping Frog by Mark Twain, The Monkey’s Paw by W. W. Jacobs and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving
About 50% of the 8th grade students who were surveyed said they liked The Celebrated Jumping Frog the best. “My favorite scene of the play was when the man dressed as a frog came out,” says 8th grade student, Justin M.
“My favorite part of the frog play was when he tried to jump and he couldn’t. The noises were funny, too, it sounded like he was throwing up a hairball,” added Jasiyah M.
The students enjoyed seeing so many of the stories they have read adapted on the stage, and look forward to their next field trip in the spring.

The 7th grade held their annual Penny Wars this week. Penny Wars is a charitable competition where the 7th grade homeroom teachers go to war to raise money. When given dollar bills or quarters the homeroom gains money, while if you get any other type of change the homeroom loses money. (Although all money is donated to charity in the end.) The homerooms fought relentlessly for a week. In the end all the money donated goes to the Third Street Alliance for Women and Kids, a homeless help center. After a very competitive competition the week has come to a close and the winner is… Mrs. Gagner with $95.71 positive! Congratulations to our winner, but no sore losers, remember all goes to charity.
The final totals were:
Mrs. Ganger: $95.71
Mrs. Cunningham: $70.92
Mrs. Wells: $56.33
Mr. Brady\Mrs. Moore: $56.33
Mrs. Kirsch: -$1.36
Mrs. Korin: -$3.61
Mrs. Morrissey: -$3.26
Aside from the competition we raised a great amount for the charity. With the over $700 we raised, the Third Street Alliance for Women and Kids will buy gifts for Christmas and fill many needs for homeless families this holiday. The Scribbler would like to give a special thanks to everyone who donated, we are very appreciative of all donations.

Fifth grade went to see Frozen Jr. on December 11, 2019. Frozen Jr. was held at the PYT- Charles Brown Ice House in Bethlehem PA. The students went to see Frozen Jr. because it is an enriching experience for them. Fifth grade left by bus from WAIS at 9:10am in appropriately snowy weather and came back 12:20pm.
We asked some 5th grade students about the field trip to PYT to watch Frozen Jr. Isabella P. said,” I liked Frozen Jr but I was disappointed because Anna and Kristoph never threw Olaf’s head around in the play, but they did in the movie. Also, Anna didn’t punch Hans in the face.”
Violet H. said, ’’I like it but I was disappointed because Anna didn’t punch Hans in the face and that the big snow man didn’t come out and make them run away. Instead, they had Elsa blow them away.”
All of the students enjoyed the play, and that is all you need to know about the 5th grade field trip to Frozen Jr.

On November 22 and 23, the Wilson Area Intermediate School Drama Club performed the drama/comedy "A Family Reunion To Die For". This play contains audience interaction and many entertaining scenes. Similar to Clue, this play is a classic Whodunit? with a bit of a twist. The first show was on November 22 and was an audience interactive mystery. The second one was on November 23 and was an audience participation desert theater.
Bella, reviewed the show on November 22. She stated, “I really liked how they added questions for the audience . I loved how everyone stayed in character."
Another student, Miles, saw the show on November 23. He said, “I liked the way the set looked. The play was full of comedy which was a plus. I noticed that the plot was similar to a game of clue. I was impressed with how the actors stayed perfectly still when Mrs. Wilcox and the other people who were murdered paused what was happening and talked to the audience. The constant murders kept the action high and one of my favorite parts was when the dead people asked us questions that they put on a piece of paper which they gave to Freddie to ask the other characters. My overall rating is 5 stars. I enjoyed the play and the interactive sections were the most fun in my opinion.”
One of the crew members, Brooke H., told us about what’s happening behind the scenes. Here is what she had to say. “Working behind the scenes was honestly more fun than acting on stage would have been for me. I got to dress up the actors in their costumes and do their makeup. Also, I got to help build some of the sets. The audience only sees what is presented to them, but the backstage crew gets to see everything evolve from nothing into everything. Helping out was more fun than I could have imagined, and I even made some new friends along the way. Watching this play come to life because of work that I did was a definite reward. Overall, this play could not have happened without the backstage crew, and it did turn out exceptionally well."
The play was very successful, entertaining the audience and earning money from dessert sales to fund future performances. We hope you all enjoyed the play as much as we did!
