The WAIS canned food drive runs from Monday, Nov. 11-Friday, Dec. 6. This opportunity to help others in need is sponsored by the National Junior Honor Society and the Student Council. All donations will help to create holiday meal boxes for those in need in the Wilson community.
Seventy-five percent of students polled said that they were going to participate in the canned food drive. Students planned to bring in broth, peanut butter, chili sauce, pasta, corn, green beans, and other canned goods. Joslyn W., a fifth grader, likes to donate because "it helps people in need." Cayla C., also in fifth grade, agrees that she doesn't like to see people going hungry.
Rachel K., a seventh grader thinks that this food drive will be "good for the people who have no food." It is also good for the people who donate, because you can feel good about yourself for helping others.
Please bring your donations to the table in the lobby. Remember, you have until December 6th to turn in your canned goods!

Toys for Tots is an organization where you can help other kids in need by giving unwrapped toys to make them feel better and happy. Toys For Tots donations started October 31 and end on December 6.
We do this to help children have fun and learn. Did you know that millions of children get their Christmas presents from Toys for Tots? Many families can not afford presents and this program helps. The Toys for Tots program is a message of hope. When you donate it shows that you care about kids that can not afford things for Christmas and birthdays. Please donate new and unwrapped items.
We asked some students in WAIS what they think of Toys For Tots, Makenna S. said,” She thinks Toys For Tots an amazing thing that WAIS school does for children."
WAIS is very short on toys right now. So far, only two thoughtful people in WAIS donated to the Toys For Tots box. There are many more kids than just two kids in need of new toys. It can be any toy that you donate to the kids in need. Toys will make kids happier and help them have more fun. Kids are as important as any kind of people, so help and make them happy, be kind by donating toys.
Guest veterans listen to readings by WAIS students honoring their service.

On Friday November 8, 2019, the fifth-eighth grade gave undivided attention to our annual Veterans' Day Assembly. We use this day to celebrate the hard work that veterans do to protect our country. Without them we might not be able to do many of the things that we do each day.
One student from each grade was chosen to read in the assembly. The fifth grader was Anthony V. He says, “I was excited” He also said that he wasn’t at all worried about reading in front of the veterans. Some other speakers were:
There are various ways that our school celebrated Veterans' Day this year. First we all assembled quietly and respectfully. Next, we all stood for the Pledge of Allegiance. Lastly, we listened to our schoolmates present their poems, stories, and readings about Veterans' Day.
We are all thankful for the brilliant souls who left their lives, homes, and families to grant us freedom and who served their country. Please enjoy the video below showcasing the assembly.

WAIS just started a new Art Club. This is a club where you make many pieces of art. The club is currently full, but may be accepting more students in the future.
The teacher, Mrs. Pickering shows you the way to create your picture step by step. If you are done you will have to wait for the others to catch up, but you can either draw or color because of course it is Art Club.
I asked students who are in Art Club some questions about why they joined Art Club. Sixth grader Chris G says, “I joined because of the teacher! Mrs.Pickering is an amazing teacher and since I am also in art I only had 36 days and I wanted to continue!” I joined Art Club because I love art and adore coloring.
Look for great work from the Art Club at the art show later this year!

Have you heard of the "What's So Cool About Manufacturing?" club? Ever wondered what it was all about? We spoke to the advisor, Mrs. Austin, and she shared the scoop on this exciting club. We hope the questions and answers help you understand what the club does, its history, and more.
Q: What are some of the things you do during your club?
A: We are learning about how to create a marketing video. Our focus is answering the question What's So Cool About Manufacturing. The video creation will be entered into a contest in which there are over 30 other schools in the Lehigh Valley also competing. (I have included the press release from the Manufacturers Resource Center who runs the contest.)
Q: How many people of your club?
A: There are 8 students on our manufacturing video team. In fact,we are one of the larger teams in the Lehigh Valley. Most teams have 4 to 6 students
Q: Who are the members of you’re club?
A: 7th grader Talivaldis K. and 8th graders Angelina B., Aidan R., Abigail S., Jenni S., Marissa S., Chase . and Claire X. are part of the club.
Q: How long has the club been going?
A: The video contest started in 2014. Our school has competed 3 other times.
Q: How many times have you won the video contest?
A: WAIS took prizes at the Lehigh Valley competition twice. Once they received the award for the most team spirit and another time they received the overall best video production.
Q: What factories have you visited in the past?
A: WAIS visited the Follett Corporation in 2016. In 2017, they filmed at Orbel and that year they won outstanding program and overall excellence award. Then in 2018, the WAIS team filmed at Victaulic and won the award for outstanding team spirit.
Thank you to Mrs. Austin for answering our questions. We wish the team the best of luck with this years' video production.
Please complete this survey about our canned food drive. Answers may appear in a future article! Thanks!

The WAIS Middle School Football team just played its last game of the season on Tuesday. I went to the game with a few of my friends to support my other friends on the team. Though it was rainy and gloomy, the cheers of the crowd quickly lightened up the stadium. Of course, our school claimed victory at 5:20 pm when the game ended with a striking 22 to 6. The enthralling game was against Notre Dame Middle School.
The people I went to support were Hunter A. #7, Ian F. #30, Elijah M. #51, and Cruz S. #60. Some of my friends were cheerleaders, too, like Jasiyah M. and Ruby P. I was also there to support the rest of the skilled players on the team, and to cheer them on from the stands.
The most exciting moment of the game came when our defense made an impressive break-up of a pass, not allowing Notre Dame to make a first down.
Congratulations, Wilson, on another amazing season, and good luck on the high school team to the 8th graders!

Have you seen students wearing shirts this week that say "Garcia Cup"? Ever wondered what the Garcia Cup is? Well, the Garcia Cup is a Lehigh Valley tournament between our youth soccer leagues. The Garcia cup took place this past Saturday and Sunday, and students from WAIS were on the team that placed second!
Ian Q. was the goalie for the competition. Ian explained the Garcia Cup saying, “It is a tournament at the end of the season where we play 3 or 4 games and if we make it to the semi finals, we go to finals.”
He told us that the most memorable victory from this season prior to the Garcia Cup was when we "won against Forks Township 13-0, because of how high the score was.” The team had played 10 games over the course of the season, which helped them to enter the tournament.
On the day of the Garcia Cup, the team seemed unbeatable. Through their first five games, they only allowed one goal, which was amazing! Unfortunately, a really tough team from Wind Gap defeated them 2-0 in the final. The team was proud of their hard work and practice all season, and we are proud that they got all the way to the finals.
The most important thing we asked members of the team is, “How can people join soccer next year if their interested?” Ian told us to look for flyers from the office with all the information. Hopefully you will consider joining the team or cheering them on at next year's Garcia Cup.
WAIS students had fun taking the survey - and posing for this silly photo!

On Thursday, October 31, 2019, a student survey was published on Scribbler Weekly - the results are in, and your answers are below.
Apparently 5th graders read and love surveys because 53.3% of the people who read and responded to our poll are in fifth grade!
Do people actually like school? Jordin S., a 5th grader, likes school, but7th grader, Savana O. doesn't.
According to 8th grader, Jillion W., her favorite part of school is Lunch. Sebastian G. agrees. According to 6th grader, Avery G., her favorite part of school is swimming and learning new things.
According to 23.3% of the students who responded, Mr.Burden is their favorite teacher! Congratulations, Mr. Burden!
16.7% of the people who responded say they like waking up early whereas 26.3% strongly dislike waking up early. 43.3% are neutral about their wake-up time.
If you didn’t respond yet you still can, but we will be making more surveys throughout the year for everyone to answer. We are excited to read your amazing responses!
