The yearbook club has been going around to all of the homerooms to take a picture of everyone. Almost all the homerooms have been done, so fairly soon, the clubs will be getting their picture taken.
“I joined Yearbook club because it seemed fun and I just wanted to help,” says Makenna S. Chris G. agrees that it is fun and he enjoys designing the yearbook’s interior.
“If I had to tell someone about Yearbook club, I would tell them it takes a lot of time and good work ethic, but the memories you make at the end of the year are worth it and great to keep,” says Brianna P.
Anyone can purchase a yearbook by simply going to the office and getting a paper copy of the order form. If anyone would like to purchase a yearbook online, the link is Yearbookforever.com.

Next week, WAIS is holding a Seuss Week. Seuss Seek is important because March 2nd is NEA’s Read Across America Day and Dr.Seuss's birthday.
One thing we celebrate this week is Read Across America Day. It is a nationwide reading event to celebrate the importance of reading. It also celebrates the accomplishments of Dr. Seuss, a famous children's author whose books have sold over 600 million copies.
Tosin A., a fifth grader, is planning to participate all week, but she wants to keep her costumes a surprise. Isaiah T., who is in the sixth grade might participate, but thinks he might not remember all the days.
Seventh grader, Brooke H. says, “For the first day, I am going to be Thing One with blue hair chalk and a Thing One t-shirt, if my parents let me.”
Don’t forget Seuss Week, but if you do, just look up in the hallway - there are posters everywhere!
Here is the schedule for the week:
Monday, March 4 is Dress Like a Seuss Character Day! Thing 1, Thing 2, the Lorax, Horton, a Who or The Cat in the Hat... who will you dress like? Seuss hat and thing hair patterns are available in the library if you need something Seuss-y! Our Student Council and National Junior Honor Society 7th and 8th grade students will be visiting all 5th and 6th graders at 2 pm to read Seuss or short stories!
Tuesday, March 5 is All Stars Day... based off of Seuss’s book The Sneetches. All students and staff will be given Seuss Stars. On the stars, they will write something that makes them extraordinary!
Wednesday, March 6 is Wacky Wednesday (just like the Seuss book with the same name!) You are invited to wear wacky clothes and hair. (School appropriate, of course!)
Thursday, March 7 is Oh, The Places You’ll Go Day… Staff and students are invited to dress like the career of their dreams! Think athlete, business person, lawyer, doctor, teacher, scientist, chef, or mechanic. Visit your personal Xello account for more ideas!
Friday, March 8 is Horton Hears a Who Day when everyone is asked to go out of there way to complete a random act of kindness for someone.

On Tuesday, February 19th, WAIS had a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. The Tournament was for anyone in 7th and 8th grade who was interested in playing Basketball with their friends after school for fun. To enter, you had to donate one canned food item to the LINCS.
The coaches were Mr.Tigar, Mr.Falcone, and Mrs.Thomas. Armando H., Raffe S., and Luis C. won the tournament with 9 wins.
Tamiere M., a seventh grader who participated in the tournament, said, “ I went to play with my friends for fun and try to win the tournament. I really enjoyed playing that day. We came in 3rd Place.” He thought the team that won the tournament deserved to win. Each team that entered the tournament had a great time and was happy with what they accomplished, both on the court, and in the community.

Thing 1 and Thing 2,
Are always up to no good.
Causing trouble all around,
Never growing out of childhood!
All week, WAIS has been celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday by dressing up similarly to characters in his books! Students participated in activities including dressing like any Seuss character, to creating a star, to being all wacky, to dressing like your dream job, and lastly, completing an act of kindness. Students were encouraged to have fun and be creative during this whole week of silliness. On Tuesday, students filled out stars with what makes them extraordinary and posted them on the window near the office.
The Star-Bellied Sneetches,
Their egos are puffy.
The Plain-Bellied Sneetches,
They get all huffy!
On Wednesday, WAIS students wore silly clothes and hair to embrace their inner wackiness. Wacky shoes and socks were especially popular. Payton H. said she "really liked Wacky Wednesday."
Is that a bird? No,
It’s a plane! Wrong,
It’s a shoe on the ceiling,
Sitting where it doesn’t belong!
On Thursday, to celebrate the book Oh the Places You'll Go, many dressed up like a worker in the career they wish to have. Hayden E. said this was his favorite day, saying "I like Oh The Places You’ll Go Day because I got to dress as my dream job.” Emma C., who loves to create art, dressed like an artist. Other costumes included chefs, police officers, members of the military, athletes, fashion designers, teachers, optometrists, and journalists.
Oh The places you’ll go,
The great things you’ll be.
An author, a chef, a teacher,
You will at last be free!
On Friday, students and staff dressed up like their favorite character from any Dr. Seuss book, and were also encouraged to do a random act of kindness. “My sister encouraged me to dress up like Thing 2 (she was Thing 1) because we are twins,” says Brielle H. Some of the WAIS student leadership took that idea a step farther, dressing as student council "Officer" 1-3!
Horton leading voices to safety,
Who-Ville in a speck of dust.
His friends should believe him,
And give him all their trust.
The Student Council and National Junior Honor society students read to the fifth and sixth graders to end this celebration of reading and Dr. Seuss. They definitely completed their random act of kindness by planning such a fun week for the whole school!
